Agency Profile:

This shelter’s mission is to provide safe and supportive shelter and services for Veterans who are homeless as a part of the VA’s Transitional Housing Program. We are a not-for-profit registered charitable agency governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, with a goal to become an integral part of our community providing essential emergency shelter services to the Veteran community.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSW or 2-year college diploma in a human services program with 5 years of experience working with the homeless population
  • Experience working with the Veteran population, preference given to those with homeless Veteran population.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with in-person counselling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Understanding and delivery of anti-oppressive practices as well as power/control dynamics
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict and crisis.
  • Able and willing to varied shifts and hours based on needs of resident population
  • A clean background check
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driving license and insurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides appropriate professional understanding and intervention in response to emotional, behavioral, physical needs of clients.
  • Maintains and supervises established routines and procedures.
  • Assists residents to establish and achieve individualized goals
  • Utilizes effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality of residents.
  • Will be responsible for managing up to 5 employees and devising appropriate work schedules to cover shifts
  • Will report to and work with Executive Director to ensure compliance with internal and external customers as well as our Board of Directors.
  • Participates in design and implementation of program activities.
  • Participates in research/evaluation/quality assurance activities that would enhance the efficiency and/or effectiveness of service delivery.
  • Fosters positive relationships with community programs and individuals as necessary.
  • Provides referrals and follow-up as necessary.
  • Adheres to contract guidelines for operational standards set forth.
  • Participates in shift change and runs staff meetings as required, shares information in a respectful, non-judgmental manner.
  • Exercises good judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential information.
  • Completes all necessary documentation, including written records/reports and provides statistics as requested and in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs other organizational duties as assigned.
  • Learn and understand health and safety standards, regulations, policies and procedures and comply with them.
  • Acts as the lead contact and have resident centered communication with our main referral source as well as participate in the Continuum of Care (COC) on behalf of LCVH.
  • Experience working with customers that are impacted by problems like neglect, domestic violence, child abuse, mental health as well as substance abuse and MST.
  • Ability to provide a full focus on what residents are thinking, comprehend the points currently being made, ask questions rather than interrupt inappropriately.
  • Recognition of others’ understanding and reactions exactly why they react as they do.
  • Ability to determine the relative benefits and costs of prospective social health and service care actions and select the best one.
  • Comfortable using a laptop for numerous tasks.
  • Experienced in Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to remain calm and empathize with customers when they’re upset.
  • Ability to provide a treatment plan.
  • Expertise of crisis intervention.
  • Maintain clear delineation between work life and personal life.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 24 – 30 per week
