Job Summary:
The focus of the maintenance team is to keep equipment in the RDC fully operational. The Maintenance Utility is an entry level position for the Maintenance organization that initially requires entry level mechanical and electrical aptitude, basic tool knowledge, as well as the desire and ability to work with and learn from others. In this position, an employee will be trained in safety protocols and basic electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and plumbing concepts while performing simple preventive maintenance tasks such as forklift battery and light bulb replacement. Through on-the-job experiences the Utility will gain a more detailed understanding of the RDC building structures, systems, and equipment, and will progress from simple to basic to more complex preventive maintenance tasks. The employee also will have the opportunity to work with Maintenance Mechanics to develop basic repair skills and assist with more complex maintenance activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Determine safety precautions and requirements for task
• Prepare worksite; perform lock-out/tag-out
• Gather tools and spare parts for task
• Use tools safely; check condition of tools prior to using; use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Perform tasks as directed by more experienced mechanic, as indicated with work instructions and/or with mentor oversight (if applicable)
• Evaluate condition of equipment; recognize potential for breakdown in the near future and recommend pre-emptive action
• Seek assistance from a more experienced mechanic if equipment needs to be repaired
• Change out equipment batteries; charge unused or dead batteries
• Keep batteries in good condition; wash/clean battery trays
• Leave worksite in good and safe condition; test eye washer, emergency shower; change battery wash water; keep acid pans beneath batteries clean
• Turn in unused spare parts
• Document condition of equipment as found, work performed, spare parts used, and any other applicable documentation
• Close out work orders and Preventative Maintenance (PM) requests
• Enter data into 7I system (computerized maintenance management system)
• Perform rack repairs
• Inform next shift of remaining work
• Provide status of incomplete tasks bridging the two shifts
• Attend and participate in training as scheduled
• Demonstrate positive and effective interactions with maintenance customers
• Assist Mechanics with preventive maintenance tasks or repairs
• Assist Mechanics with fabrication and insulation of projects
• Attend and participate in training as scheduled. Continue to increase skill in one of the three work areas (building, conveyor, and rolling stock) and learn and develop a working knowledge of the repair methods. These areas include the following maintenance systems: o Conveyor systems, controls, and subsystems o Industrial Electrical Systems (Note: Some states have specific regulations concerning this type of work, and those regulations will supersede the training noted here) o Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) o Fire Suppression systems o Welding and Fabrication o Plumbing and Carpentry (Physical plant-type construction and repairs) o Fork Lift, Material Handling, and Rolling Stock systems, including subsystems and components of the Equipment Preventive Maintenance Technologies III.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by Maintenance Coach
Required Qualifications:
• Possess a valid state drivers license
• Demonstrated adherence to safety requirements
• Demonstrated basic level mechanical/electrical aptitude
• Able to read blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings
• Experience operating various maintenance and operations vehicles and equipment
• General knowledge of and experience using hand and power tools
• Able to see objects and discriminate color
• Comfortable working at tall heights
Preferred Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Technical school graduate preferred
