Job Summary:
The primary purpose of the Director, Promo Strategy is to drive pre-season and in-season organizational alignment around go to market promotional strategies necessary to deliver financial plan with coordination specifically across Merchandising, Marketing, Store Operations, and Supply Chain. This includes a keen understanding of all major operational tactics needed to realize financial plan including marketing calendar and allocation of dollars, event calendar, key promotional strategies, utilization of flex space, inventory investments
(or known constraints), capacity management, staffing considerations, and new fulfillment capabilities. This position will communicate the key risks or opportunities with senior officers and executive leaders, along with determine adjustments to strategy or plans to mitigate. This position will develop options and alternative strategies (i.e., what-if analysis) in partnership with key stakeholders to adjust to changing economic circumstances and customer demand. This position will drive promo modernization efforts in close partnership with the tech team to drive productivity, modernize technology and improve promo effectiveness. The Director, Promo Strategy will effectively lead efforts and indirectly lead others to ensure all relevant actions are taken to best position the company in the delivery of the financial plan. This position will require a strong sense of
urgency, high degree of business acumen of both internal/external landscape, ability to influence without authority, while appropriately challenging status quo or norms to ensure the company is positioned for best possible business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Drives pre-season and in-season organizational alignment around go to market strategies necessary to deliver financial plan with coordination specifically across Merchandising, Marketing, Store Operations, and Supply Chain
Leverages the marketing calendar, competitive landscape and “new/different’ to define the promo needs of the enterprise (framework) and partners with finance to manage the financial impact (omni / in-store and online)
Maintains a thorough understanding of annual financial plan and quarterly financial forecasts including major drivers of EBIT and Return on Invested Capital goals
Tracking against key operational commitments and in-season execution to ensure appropriate prioritization and allocation of resources needed to deliver the financial plan
Identifies key risks / Opportunities that would impact the enterprise or the overall financial plan to ensure consideration of gap closure alternatives. When necessary, obtain rapid organizational alignment with senior leadership in order to execute in-season changes to meet quarterly financial commitments
Executes competitive analysis and side by side comparisons for senior leadership. Drives conversations around key promotional pivots and adjustments that could have material impact on Lowe's business
Drives education and alignment across functions of all major operational tactics needed to realize financial plan including marketing calendar and allocation of dollars, event calendar, key promotional strategies, utilization of flex space, inventory investments (or known constraints), capacity management, staffing considerations, and new fulfillment capabilities
Leads promo modernization efforts to drive productivity, modernize technology and improve promo effectiveness.
Develops strategies in close partnership with the Loyalty and Personalization teams to increase customer recognition and loyalty through successful loyalty programming and increased data-led marketing
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree Marketing or other related field and/or 8-10 years of experience in a business facing position in merchandising, marketing and/or strategic capability planning
8-10 years of marketing/merchandising leadership experience for consumer brands or retailer
8-10 years of experience running a P&L and/or working alongside P&L owners
7-8 Years working cross functionally
7-8 Years experience leading promo strategy at a retailer or CPG company
Leadership experience with direct report responsibility
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree MBA or other related field
Experience working with a large, 50 fortune 50 company or major retailer
Leadership experience in promo strategy and loyalty
