SUMMARY

The Withdrawal Management (WM) Director plans, organizes, and leads the overall operation of the WM unit to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and meeting the needs of a diverse and vulnerable patient population through an interdisciplinary team of clinical counselors, peer support specialists, and patient support specialists.    The Director has direct and indirect supervision of the team members that may include hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility, and disciplinary authority.  The Director is considered a member of the Executive Management Team (EMT) and will have direct reports.

 

POSITION LOGISTICS

  • Full-time (37.5 hours)
  • Routinely 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday (work hours and schedules are determined by supervisor and unit needs)
  • Evening and weekends may be possible
  • Available for on-call needs of the 24 x 7 x 365 unit

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education and/or Experience

  • Master’s degree in Human Services field 
  • At least five years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years working in an inpatient hospital or withdrawal management unit and two years of supervisory experience.  (Experience may be concurrent.)

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Certified as Advanced/Alcohol and Drug Counselor through Addiction Professionals of South Carolina (APSC) or ability to complete the certification process within the required timeframe.
  • Licensure (LMSW, LAC, or equivalent) required; Licensed at the independent level as an LPHA (LISW-CP, LPC, LAC) is preferred.


POSITION OVERVIEW

 Managerial:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations including staffing, scheduling, training, and staff supervision.  Provide 24-hour managerial support to the WM team.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, train and oversee staff providing patient and family care.
  • Provides individual clinical supervision to assigned personnel.
  • Provides individual coaching and skill building to team.
  • Observes clinical staff and facilitates follow-up regarding observation.
  • Ensures team will evaluate patients using critical thinking skills
  • Provides clinical supervision and ensures adequate coverage of assigned staff.

 

Clinical Services:

  • Assesses, plans, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical and operational functions of the WM unit to ensure quality, cost effective, patient-centered care is provided by an educated and competent team.
  • Coordinates the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Maintains open and ongoing communication with patients and families, providing opportunities and encouragement to participate in decision-making.
  • Assesses the environment and makes recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety, and compliance with various regulatory bodies.
  • Evaluate patient care and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (LRADAC, DAODAS, CARF, DHEC).
  • Develops, implements, and executes plans for providing effective and efficient WM patient intake.
  • Ensuring billing requirements, including pre-authorizations of services, and continued stay authorizations are completed appropriately.
  • Supervises and monitors utilization of services to ensure timely and appropriate placements, including bed utilization.
  • Oversees, monitors, and ensures adherence to Infection Control Standards.
  • Coordinates with Nurse Manager to ensure clients receive mediation management and medication education as needed.

 

Strategic Organizational Leadership

  • Serves as a role model in all aspects of job performance and human relations skills.
  • Collaborates with other managers and directors to develop strategies around growth, integration, onboarding, and workstreams.
  • Works with physicians, interdisciplinary care team, and care coordination in a partnering relationship to deliver seamless patient care.
  • Ensures appropriate metrics are in place for quality, monitoring, evaluating, and improving WM and meeting all quality requirements.
  • Review patient survey and complaints.  Use professional judgement along with policies to manage complex patient decisions.
  • Works closely with leadership to manage and mitigate potential risk issues.
  • Assist VP of Clinical Services in the preparation of reports.
  • Actively participate in CQI and QA processes related to health/safety issues and the provision of quality and efficient service delivery.
  • Conducts and ensures period quality audits are completed to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in the development of LRADAC’s strategic plan for WM services and explores opportunities to expand or enrich services.
  • Serve as a liaison and spokesperson to community agencies and partners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hand and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb, or balance, and stoop, or kneel (to perform CPR).  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
