Job Description
Under the direction of the HR Manager, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting a healthy and safe work environment. This position will develop plant safety and health programs and objectives, coordinate safety training programs, monitor safety and health regulations, and provide technical support to plant and office personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations.
Duties include:
Prepare written safety and health programs and policies.
Develop annual company safety and health goals.
Participate in new product/process reviews, including hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
Maintain corporate safety library.
Participate in company occupational safety and health committee.
Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
Audit practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance.
Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and workers' comp claims.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Requires education equivalent to an associate's degree in safety management-related field (bachelor's degree preferred).
2-5 years of experience in a safety coordinator role is required.
Mon-Fri 6:00am-2:00pm, but must be able to come in for other shifts for safety training.
Experience in implementing OSHA training programs.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines and practices.
Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
Ability to understand employee needs/feelings as related to safety and take action as needed to address concerns.
OSHA training certification (desirable).
Forklift training certificate (preferred).
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear; use hands and fingers to handle and touch objects, tools, or controls to work in a production environment.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds while moving files and/or manuals.
Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus to work.
