  • Security and Maintenance staff must obtain approval from their supervisor to take holidays as scheduled.
  • If required to work on a holiday, the eligible hourly non-exempt employee will receive their paid holiday on another date.
  • The days specified as holidays are subject to administrative discretion on a year to year basis.

Sick Leave Accrual Table

A maximum of 240 hours (30 days) of sick leave may be accumulated.

Vacation Leave Accrual Table

Maximum accumulation per year is 2 weeks.

Tuition Assistance

A percentage of the tuition may be waived for the employee, for spouse and their dependent children from 50% to 100% contingent on length of service and specific program limitations. For interpretation or inquiries concerning tuition assistance policy statements, please contact the Financial Assistance office.

Tuition Waiver

Full-time LCU employees are eligible to register during the fall and spring semesters as students for one undergraduate course (except for the Organizational Management degree program) for up to three semester hours without paying tuition.

Lubbock Christian School (LCS) Grades K-12

Children of full-time employees of Lubbock Christian University may attend LCS grades K-12 at a tuition discount of 40%.

Sister-School Tuition Discount

Other Christian universities award tuition discounts to eligible dependents of full-time LCU employees. Each Christian college or university administers their own discount program and establishes qualifying requirements at their discretion.

Functional Title: Resident Director
Classification: Salary Non-Exempt
Department: Student Life—The Lubbock Christian University Division of Student Life exists to deepen the sense of community, inspire Christ-like development, and foster student growth with high quality services and programs throughout the student experience.
Reports To: Director of Residential Life

Primary Function: Responsibility for supervision of and service to students within a large residence hall, for the administration of staff and facilities management, and the establishment and maintenance of a residential environment which promotes students’ academic, psychosocial, and spiritual development.

Major Duties:

  • Cultivate a Residence Hall environment that fosters community through caring relationships, service to others as well as mutual encouragement and accountability.
  • Assist the Director of Residential Life in establishing, communicating, and enforcing consistently and equitably University and Residence Life guidelines and policies.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and when necessary, terminate, one Community Advisor (CA) and undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) in coordination with the Director of Residential Life.
  • Facilitate semimonthly RA staff meetings (consisting of all RA’s and the CA), weekly senior staff meetings with the CA.
  • Hire, train, and supervise desk sitter staff.
  • Learn and develop proficiencies with campus software programs.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with Director of Residential Life.
  • Serve as Residence Hall retention officer. Maintain familiarity with campus resources and refer students, as necessary.
  • Report appropriate 12th day residence hall numbers to Director of Residential Life.
  • Manage respective facilities, including monthly safety checks (doors, alarms, etc.) and submit any work orders to Facilities.
  • Work in campus software to bill students accounts each semester for housing and meal plans.
  • Work with Dean of Students and Chap Track Team to assess at risk students.
  • Function as chief administrator of hall safety. Includes fire drills, hall safety training, monitoring and awareness of severe weather, and health/emergency response.
  • Conduct residence hall assessments each semester, as defined by the Director of Residential Life.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed deferred maintenance plan of respective facilities. On February 1, send a report to the Director of Residential Life as to proposed summer remodel, maintenance, and facility improvement plans.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled daily office hours. Alternate weekend availability with the CA.
  • On-call rotation with other RDs as scheduled
  • Carry a cell phone at all times to ensure quick access in times of emergency.
  • Provide transportation to students in need of non-emergency medical attention.
  • Control access to the resident hall by monitoring key distribution.
  • Complete and submit incident reports to the Director of Residential Life in a timely manner.
  • Assess rooms for damage and report appropriate fines to the Director of Residential Life.
  • Be knowledgeable of laws related to student privacy.

Duties: Summer

  • Provide accurate, daily housing updates to the Director of Residential Life.
  • Work with Director of Residential Life to confirm returning and new students and complete room assignments throughout the summer.
  • Work with the Director of Residential Life on RA training, yearly training, and hall programming.
  • Be available to perform professional duties and answer questions, attend meetings, communicate to future students and parents, communicate to present students. Office hours may be accounted for in other parts of the residence hall (i.e., completing projects).
  • Accommodate and work with summer camps, serve on campus committees and planning, be available for admissions tours during pre-registration as needed, etc.
  • Match roommates and bill appropriately for the fall semester.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of hall furniture and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Life.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The Resident Director is one who invests in the spiritual, mental, and emotional health of students in the residential living experience through the oversight responsibilities of Gullo Hall. Gullo Hall has a total of 172 beds, divided between two hallways and three floors. Gullo Hall is made up of both male and female residents with restricted door access between hallways. Students will have the option of choosing a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom suite or a 4 bedroom/2-bathroom suite along with requesting their suitemates. Gullo Hall has a full kitchen, a terrace, a courtyard, and multiple common areas among the three floors for students to enjoy community. There will also be 3 male and 3 female Resident Assistance to support the Resident Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Be self-motivated and a team player who proactively looks for ways to continuously improve student life.
  • Be extremely organized.
  • Have the ability to remain calm in conflict and crisis.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, manage conflict, think critically, be approachable, and relate to a diversity of students and constituents.
  • Display evidence of Christian character and commitment and a desire to see students develop spiritually, academically and in character.
  • Be approachable with the ability to relate to students and staff.
  • Understand the role of Residence Life in promoting development in students.
  • Possess managerial skills, and proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Protect confidentiality, discussing student information only with the Director of Residential Life or appropriate members of administration and faculty members.
  • Not divulge or discuss information about possible university plans or goals unless authorized by your supervisor.

Education and Experience:

  • Preference may be given to applicants who are members of the Church of Christ.
  • Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience working with students or in areas related to student development. Experience in residential life and a master’s degree preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear; frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
