Job Description
The Optician is responsible for assisting patients with their eyewear needs. The Optician will recommend specific eyewear, take measurements, fit and adjust glasses, and teach customers to properly wear and care for their glasses or contact lenses.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Interpret and explain patient prescriptions from optometrists.
- Take customer information and measurements of the ocular area.
- Recommend frames or contact lenses that suit the customer's style, face, and specifications.
- Adjust and fit frames according to the prescriptions and customer's specifications.
- Order eyewear from the appropriate laboratory based on prescription and patient preference.
- Partner with frame vendors and optical laboratories to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Perform quality inspection of materials and complete repairs using appropriate parts and tools.
- Maintain equipment and inventory necessary to properly run the practice.
- Understand modern fashion to assist patients with selections.
- Perform administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Optician certification is a plus but not required
- Detailed oriented, reliable, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
- Demonstrated sales ability
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills, knowledge of Officemate or Crystal is a plus
- Understanding of frame and lens types, materials and coatings
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
Working conditions include those typically seen in a practice environment; On-site, inside of our practices (no remote work available). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Schedule
Tuesday-Saturday (Sunday and Monday off)
