Position Summary:
The applications engineer will be involved in designing the integrated installation and operation of Lummus products, from the customer specification to the final design. The engineer will evaluate the order and site from the sales / customer ordering process and design integrated equipment and layouts using CAD (2-D and 3-D and graphic modeling) to satisfy those requirements. The design process includes current designs of equipment as well as items needed to be engineered per order. This process is completed by utilizing CAD software in conjunction with current Lummus standards. Great organizational skills and attention to detail is critical in assuring that the order is processed in the highest accuracy. The engineer will work with other departments such as manufacturing, design engineering, and sales as required to complete the order process.
Essential Functions:
Design plant installations by creating plan views, elevations views, foundations, and electrical stub up drawings
Design and detail engineered to order requirements per order specifications
Design airflow systems that move product through plants
Design steel support structures for supporting machinery
Perform order entry functions to create product demand for manufacturing
Create BOMs (Bill of materials) for designed items to be manufactured
Continuous improvement of department processes and resources
Assist manufacturing with questions about the design of sheet metal items
Create customer print requirement needed for machinery erection
Education / Experience / Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
2-5 years' experience of engineering work in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
Proficient in AutoCAD and Solidworks
Proficient in MS Office tools
Basic knowledge of ERP systems
Metal fabrication / welding experience is a plus
Experience in airflow and load calculations is a plus
ISO knowledge preferred

Work Environment / Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily indoors in an environmentally controlled area.
The employee’s regular work location will be in front of a workstation utilizing design software such as Solidworks and AutoCAD. There will be trips to the manufacturing floor which will require the employee to wear safety equipment such as steel toe boots and safety glasses. Occasionally the employee will be required to visit a customer site to review a design or to take measurements.
