LW Marketing & Consulting operates multiple organizations throughout the United States and Canada with the primary focus on managing their largest client, eDist, the largest sales organization for Speech Solutions in the United States and Canada.
As they are registered for sales tax in all applicable jurisdictions, the ideal candidate is proficient in managing all of the registrations, associated filings, dissolutions, audits, and correspondence associated with all registrations. The Corporate Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the organization’s tax related accounting operations as well as leading the Finance Team.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain documented sales tax training materials and procedure system.
- Implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Monitor sales tax registration and exemptions for the company and resellers.
- Perform regular reviews of evolving sales tax law to ensure compliance.
- Act as liaison between accounting firm and the company.
- Maintain proper tax filing and compliance for multiple entities in all required states.
- Respond to tax notices from State and Federal agencies.
- Validate all registrations are correctly filed, amended, or dissolved, as applicable.
- Monitor and maintains all asset tracking and depreciation schedules for franchise tax.
- Demonstrate proficiency in sales tax management, filing, and audits.
- Work with external auditors and provides necessary information for audits.
- File monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with the appropriate agencies.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Accounting and Finance Department's operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
- Supervise sales tax filing.
- Manage training programs and identifies training needs.
- Direct the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with GAAP or international financial reporting standards.
- Recommends and develops benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
- Provide financial analysis with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Maintain proper tax filing and compliance for multiple entities in all jurisdictions.
- Negotiate, procure and maintain proper coverage for all necessary business insurance.
- Issues annual 1099s and T4s as needed, for multiple entities.
- Responsible for company 401K Plan administration, necessary filings, and required notifications.
- Monitor and maintain all asset tracking & depreciation schedules.
- Manage maintenance, scheduling, and negotiation of all leases and terms.
- Oversee annual general liability and worker’s compensation insurance audits.
- Negotiate and secure, cost-effective contracts for insurance, leases, credit card rates, etc. for all entities.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Exceptional change management and supervisory skills.
- High proficiency in general business knowledge.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong Sales tax and tax management experience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in developing compensation and incentive plans.
- Proficient in accounting and tax software, including QuickBooks Online.
- Expert in tax filing and compliance for multiple entities and multiple jurisdictions
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
- Ten years or more of related experience required.
- Substantial business experience, CPA or CMA required.
- Canadian or other international experience a plus.
- Experience with software integrations such as; QuickBooks Online, Zoho One, Woo Commerce, 3 PL Central, Tax Jar, Avalara, eDist proprietary software platform or similar software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to travel as needed.
