The Lycée Français de Chicago provides its students with a rigorous bilingual education in a dynamic and welcoming multicultural community. Laboratory Technician (part-time, approximately 20 hours per week)
Reports to: Director of Secondary School
Position Description: The laboratory technician works closely with the Head of the Science Department and science teachers to implement and administer activities, as described below. The position requires an aptitude for all sciences, including chemistry, physics, biology and geology.
Responsibilities
- Plans his or her schedule with the Head of the Science Department
- Provides technical support, ensuring that equipment is functioning properly and that the right materials are available for specific lessons
- Prepares science equipment before lessons and ensures equipment is ready to use
- Keeps laboratory equipment clean and in good working order
- Assists in setting up laboratory equipment for science class
- Assists Science teachers in testing out new laboratory experiments prior to classroom implementation
- Assists teachers if needed during a lab activity, including clean-up and putting away laboratory equipment.
- Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies for all four labs
- Informs the head of department as to when new supplies and equipment are needed to be purchased or replaced
- Develops, implements and manages the chemical storage plan
Requirements:
- Must be fluent in English and French.
- Previous experience working in a lab, including in an academic setting.
- Excellent communication skills, organized, and able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Proven skills in working independently and being self-motivated and goal oriented.
Additional Information
- This position will start in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year
- This is an hourly, part-time position with no benefits.
