In general, the maintenance staff is responsible for general cleaning, set up areas for meetings and special events, distribute incoming deliveries to the appropriate locations, and participate as an active member of the security and team for the School. To account for certain organizational demands, the maintenance staff must show flexibility in her or his schedule, in order to respond to occasional unexpected circumstances during the day, and if necessary, evening and/or week-end activities (such as meetings, special events and weather emergencies) requiring their presence.
Duties and Responsibilities The maintenance staff’s responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to: • Clean all assigned indoor/outdoor areas as scheduled • Mop, sweep/vacuum, strip and buffing of floors • Cleaning bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, cleaning glass and ornamental metals • Refill soap and paper dispensers as needed • Removal of garbage(regular and recyclables) • Protect slippery and dangerous areas in passageways, particularly during wet weather • Remove and prevent snow accumulation as needed • Frequently inspect all doors, windows and stairs for safety and security • Place barricades or cones on the street and walks as needed, removing them afterward • Maintain appearance of building (i.e. keeping hallways and cores obstruction free to ensure a quick evacuation in the event of an emergency) • Basic painting • Organize and inventory paper and cleaning supplies
Chief Personal Characteristics • Able to work with multiple distractions and changing priorities • Enjoys working with adults and students • Demonstrates the ability to get along well with diverse personalities and ages. • Works with other plant staff as a team, supporting each other and/or filling in, if needed • Maintains a professional relationship with students, faculty members, and administration • Performs tasks of general maintenance (painting, floor work, etc.), as required • Understands emergency policies and is able to handle an emergency should it occur • Reports all problems and concerns about safety and security to Supervisors • Is a self-starter and is resourceful • Fulfills other reasonable job-related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisors • Is able to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment • Is able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job Certification and Experience Requirements • Prior experience in an educational setting is a plus • Maintenance experience is required • Must be able to understand and converse in English
