About the Position
We are seeking a Network Security Engineer to join our growing organization. As a member of the Information Technology team, you will report to Lygos’ Systems Administrator/IT Manager and maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our network infrastructure and data. In this role, you will have the opportunity to design, implement, and manage our network security measures. You will also get to experience working in a collaborative, team environment.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, and manage network infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure operations in a mixed Ubuntu, MacOS and Windows environment
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime
- Provide subject matter expertise on network security, firewalls and industry best practices
- Manage and maintain network security systems by applying system patches and other periodic maintenance tasks
- Collaborate with other IT staff to optimize network performance and security
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices in network and security
- Document and formalize security processes
Qualifications & Experience:
- 4 years of network security experience in lieu of a degree; OR a bachelor's degree in information systems, information security, computer science or engineering and 2 years of network security experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in network and security roles.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Experience with network monitoring and security tools (e.g., Wireshark, Snort, etc.).
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., CMMC, GDPR, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with networking protocols and the OSI model
- Experience testing and implementing changes in a production environment
- Adept at learning new technologies and systems
- Strong self-starting and time-management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Nice-to-haves (but not required):
- Mastery of at least one scripting language, ideally Python
- Comfort using Linux at the command line
- Experience attaining DoD CMMC compliance
- Familiarity with "infrastructure as code" tools such as Puppet
- Familiarity with MDM
- Familiarity with MacOS
Compensation and Benefits: Lygos offers highly competitive salaries, stock options, bonus and benefits, including medical and dental insurance, unlimited paid time off, and 401(k).
Salary Range: $126,000-$149,000 - Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location, skill, experience, and performance.

Location information:
Hybrid - preferably 2-3 days onsite. This position is for our Berkeley location - there is no relocation assistance offered at this time.
Salary : $126,000 - $149,000
