Director of Community Engagement

Lynnhurst Congregational United Church of Christ (Lynnhurst UCC) is a progressive Christian community fueled by a deep and open faith, a passion for justice, and a desire to create an environment that is welcoming to all. Historically, Lynnhurst UCC has built on a foundation of programming for children and youth. The Covid era and its aftermath have turned attracting families with young children to church much more challenging. Recognizing the challenges, we are establishing the role of Director of Community Engagement to help lead us in exploring not only paths for growth similar to the past, but also new ideas that might be focused on different age groups, or faith and social initiatives.

The Role:

Working with the minister and Lynnhurst UCC leadership, the role will:

  • Create and lead initiatives to both understand community needs and create interactions that lead to greater connection between Lynnhurst UCC and the community.
  • Where any of the following groups are deemed to be favorable for deeper engagement, the Director of Community Engagement will work with the support of the Christian Education team to develop, coordinate and support: children and youth programing, activities for middle and high school youth, intergenerational events for families.
  • Activities for other groups in the community where an appropriate opportunity exists.
  • Lead promotion and recruitment initiatives to grow attendance for programming.

The role of Director of Community Engagement will report directly to the Pastor.

Work expectations, compensation and benefits:

The position is for 12 months, with a target of working 15 hours per week including Sunday mornings.

  • Pay will be at an hourly rate for hours worked as reported to the position’s supervisor. The pay range is expected to be between $25-$35 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
  • There will be a total of 5 weeks of leave available during the year, which will be unpaid. The timing of periods of leave will be determined in coordination with the position’s supervisor. The position will be reviewed after 12 months to determine if there are results, or an outlook indicating future results, that are leading to successful growth and/or mission that Lynnhurst UCC determines is consistent with continuing the position.
  • If Lynnhurst UCC decides to continue the position, the work agreement will be renewed for another one year period, with any compensation or benefit adjustments made at that time based on input from a formal performance evaluation conducted by the position supervisor and a representative of the Christian Education committee.
