What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deaf interpreter position at Lyons CSD?
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Deaf Interpreter's primary function is to facilitate communication among students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their hearing peers, the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school system. The Deaf Interpreter provides interpreting and support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing being educated in the school district. Other duties that may be performed when they do not interfere with interpreting include tutoring, participation in meetings and being an active member of the school's educational team.
Job Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
NYS Certification The primary role of the Deaf Interpreter is to serve as a facilitator of communication: to interpret. When the need arises for both interpreting and some other task (e.g. recess/hall supervision, tutoring, etc.), interpreting takes priority and should not be interrupted.
Salary: 10-month position Per Contract
