Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with employees of Lyons Magnus in a positive and constructive manner to maintain a professional relationship. Demonstrates courtesy, discretion, friendliness, and diplomacy.
• Maintain a safety committee with representation from each department workgroup, including Management, and coordinate monthly quarterly meetings.
• Confer with management to identify safety needs and priorities.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements. Maintain current information on local, state, and federal safety and health regulations. And notify the Corporate Safety Manager immediately, if OSHA arrives to conduct a site visit.
• Conduct periodic safety compliance inspections and training.
• Maintain injury and illness records (OSHA Log). Monitor the OSHA statistics (incident rate) monthly and report to Corporate Safety Manager
• Review accident reporting and investigation procedures to evaluate the root cause of injury/accident, and identify measures needed to prevent a recurrence.
• Order and distribute Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and training materials to all employees
• Monitor an Early-Return-to-Work policy.
• Maintain relationships with Occupational Health Clinic(s), provide them with the company’s return to work policy and job requirements on an ongoing basis.
• Follow-up with the employee upon return to work to formally document the employee understands his/her work restrictions. Monitor progress on a weekly basis.
• Establish a goal for reducing claim frequency and severity.
• On-call to respond to all Workplace Accident Emergencies.
• Manage Lyons Hazardous Materials Business Plan and Emergency Evacuation.
• Responsible for the Environmental, Health, & Safety training of plant employees (Bi-Lingual).
• Employee uniform management and administration.
• Coordinate yearly fire extinguisher inspections for all departments.
• Provide forklift training and certification operators.
• Keep first aid cabinets stocked with first aid supplies.
• Attend seminars and other workshops.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge and working application in OSHA regulations, Safety, and Training.
• Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and food safety a plus.
• Experience with food manufacturing equipment is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and an aptitude for detail, and strong organizational abilities a must.
• Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Education and/or Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in Safety; Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS), HR, or a related field.
