The Structural Designer will function as part of the corrugated team. This role directly supports sales and purchasing personnel in our branches to effectively get the right design, CAD, sample and paper combination to our customers and/or purchasing team. Physical Demands
The Structural Designer will function as part of the corrugated team. This role directly supports sales and purchasing personnel in our branches to effectively get the right design, CAD, sample and paper combination to our customers and/or purchasing team. Essential Position Functions:
- Developing innovative, cost-effective, and structurally sound packing solutions for shipping, merchandising and retail. Including but not limited to corrugated and chipboard. Utilize 3D to deliver ideas.
- Gathering data from Account Managers, Sales Directors, and Customers to create designs, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), and prototypes for customer approval.
- Identify the necessary materials and manufacturing processes for the project and provide alternatives as appropriate.
- Collaborate with designers and production counterparts to streamline processes of design approvals.
- Provide coaching and training to designer peers to build capability.
- Input with vendors on cutting dies ordering for manufacturing.
- Make formal or informal client presentations with Sales or individually pertaining to design concepts.
- Review and understand how to use basic testing equipment for paper weights.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must have intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
- Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer.
- Must have experience with Design software including enterprise Computer Assisted Design (i.e., ESKO), and 3D software (i.e., Strata 3D Studio Mac, Adobe, Microsoft office).
- Produce samples and mock-ups using various structural design techniques and skills including drafting (2D/3D), foam core modeling, and knife tools and cutting tables.
- Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills.
- Must be able to read and communicate in English, for safe and effective performance of the job and business operations.
- Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
