What are the responsibilities and job description for the AVP, Marketing (Tysons Corp.) position at Macerich Company?
The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Marketing is responsible for leading and guiding Marketing Managers in all property level marketing activities, in particular, their mission to add value to their properties and to Macerich through identifying and securing mall programming, media and sponsorship partnerships. Under the direction of the Vice President, Marketing, he/she will serve as an engaged member of the Marketing leadership team that sets the strategic direction and will effectively communicate expectations and oversee key initiatives with field marketing teams. In all efforts, the Assistant Vice President, Marketing will embrace and demonstrate Macerich Core Values and partner with respective Assistant Vice President counterparts to support and contribute to company goals.
What You'll Do
- Serve as an engaged member of the Marketing leadership team that sets direction and strategy for the department, while providing regional oversight for all marketing goals and initiatives.
- Along with VP, Property Management counterparts, lead the process of developing a property strategic plan for high-priority shopping centers within the region, based on center situation, market research, industry trends and definition of the "best customer." Work closely with Marketing Managers to execute, measure and refine strategic plans.
- Collaborate with regional leadership team including Vice Presidents of Property Management, Leasing and Security to create a strong regional network. Commit to mutual goals, objectives and operating procedures that add value to Macerich.
- Liaison with other disciplines to communicate marketing goals and perspectives and vice versa to effectively mentor teams for the greater good. Acknowledge and celebrate innovation and successful programs within the region.
- Partner with the corporate team to develop, align and execute corporate marketing campaigns and programs at all properties to support ESG and targeted tenant goals. Work closely with department leaders to understand their objectives, challenges, and opportunities.
- Determine strategic marketing directives for properties based on business plans and budgets.
- Hire, train and mentor all marketing personnel in order to cultivate their strengths and growth within the department and company. Provide support to help Marketing Managers effectively perform their essential job functions.
- Cultivate an atmosphere of respect and professionalism, in which team members celebrate collaboration and success. Model a solutions-based approach to overcoming challenges.
- Guide Marketing Managers in the implementation of local property marketing strategies to ensure a strong connection with property key initiatives, targeted tenants, ESG goals and corporate programs with clear objectives, including driving traffic and sales, advertising, promotions, digital programs, public relations, research, community relations and development relations. Ensure that expectations for programs are clear and realistic, based on property resources and assure all marketing programs are executed with high standards and quality.
- Provide additional coaching for development projects in the region, with particular emphasis on maximizing exposure for new retailers and development milestones, as well as revenue generation opportunities.
- Work with Marketing Managers to reinforce fiscal responsibility for marketing expenses. Proactively seek too control and optimize expenses and work closely with corporate resources to effectively manage budgets. Ensure all properties end the year as projected.
- Partner with Business Development to identify opportunities to increase traffic and revenue at shopping centers and develop specific, measurable income goals with each property team. Clearly communicate expectations for key business development programs and help facilitate the rollout of these programs within the region.
- Guide Marketing Managers in the strategic use of research to build compelling, strategic presentations that support leasing efforts.
- Ensure participation and understanding of all department-wide training opportunities throughout the year. Facilitate additional training in conjunction with other company resources/experts to increase knowledge in key development areas, as needed.
- Align workgroup based on expertise, strengths and passion into areas of specialization that align with department and company goals to achieve maximum value.
- Meet with individual Marketing Managers at their properties on an as-needed basis to evaluate progress and provide additional support and encourage collaboration.

Your Key Success Attributes
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in marketing strategy in the retail, hospitality, or related consumer-oriented field.
- Proven leadership in marketing, where applying information and insight has led to business impact.
- Proven capabilities in the planning and execution of marketing programs.
- Strong personnel management skills, with previous experience managing teams in the marketing arena.
