Job Description: MACOM Director of Photonics Engineering
Lead an analog photonics Engineering organization of more than 50 people. Manages overall engineering and operations including R&D, product development, production/manufacturing, and marketing activities of the photonics business unit.
Manager Tasks:
Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modelling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Communication and Customer Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for representing the Company to customers, government, and other external sources and for providing customer service; assessing customer need, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.
Sales – Knowledge of principles and methods for promoting and selling products and services, including marketing strategy, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.

Job Description: MACOM Director of Photonics Engineering
Lead an analog photonics Engineering organization of more than 50 people. Manages overall engineering and operations including R&D, product development, production/manufacturing, and marketing activities of the photonics business unit.
Manager Tasks:
- Plan and manage organization's policies, objectives, and intiatives in conjunction with upper management.
- Ensure Photonics Engineering team is appropriately organized and staffed.
- Provide engineering oversight for ongoing development projects.
- Provide expertise on manufacturing, assembly, or fabrication processes.
- Support regular teleconferences and meetings with customers, key vendors, or other stakeholders. Travel to customer sites, tradeshows, or vendors as required.
- Prepare and present proposal documents to clients and work with marketing to support preparation of responses to requests for proposals.
- Negotiate project specifications and ensure the committed specifications can be met or exceeded.
- Prepare operational budgets and ensure expenditures of the Company are within authorized annual budget.
- Abide by specific internally established control systems and authorities, to lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and Company standards and policies, including its environmental, safety and health policies.
- Lead the development of photonic systems, such as photonic link products, optical receivers and transmitters and related components, photonic signal process technologies and delay lines, in response to inputs from Marketing. Products include analog RF fiber optic links, high-speed digital fiber optic transceivers and fiber optic amplifiers. Products include microprocessors and firmware.
- Possess deep experience developing and manufacturing products for Aerospace and Defense customers and harsh environments.
- Stay abreast of technological advances in photonics and introduce new technologies that can improve performance and lower costs.
- Analyze fiber-optic links, system performance or operational requirements.
- Identify new applications for existing technologies.
- Conduct research on new photonics technologies, advanced engineering designs or applications in support of Marketing and corporate strategic objectives.
