Metro Transit provides regional fixed route and paratransit service to Madison, surrounding communities, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Metro operates more than 125 buses during the peak periods on a weekday. Average weekday ridership is 34,000 boardings during the university's fall and spring semesters. Metro is implementing a total network redesign in 2023., and construction will be starting for a Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT).

- Develop scheduling alternative scenarios that offer options to balance on-time performance, ridership, and operator staffing with available resources.
- Aggregate annual scheduled service data to report to the Federal Transit Administration.
- Oversee the designing, monitoring, and altering of bus routes and schedules for safety, efficiency, and quality service using a computerized system. Write route schedules and provide information for preparation of printed route maps and schedules.
- Oversee the development of supplemental school day routes and schedules in conjunction with schools and the School District Administrators.
- Develop and monitor daily and weekly driver work schedules in compliance with provisions of the current labor contract. Arrange work periods in runs that best utilize existing labor resources, and design, post and supervise general and weekly picks in accordance with contractual guidelines.
- Advise dispatch of problem areas involving the routing and scheduling of Metro equipment, services and labor.
- Prepare reports with regard to assignments in reference to the improvement of existing routes and schedules, creation of new routes and schedules, and utilization of drivers.
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of passenger count and run time data. Develop reporting systems to collect and analyze data for scheduling purposes and as requested by management or dispatch. Prepare periodic and special reports and perform necessary research activities.
- Participate on teams and attend meetings involving Transit operations, planning, and policy committees.
- Participate in the development of specifications and Requests for Proposals for new hardware and software. Modify purchased systems and develop specialized programs to deal with unique Metro Transit needs.
- Perform related work as required.
- Four (4) years of responsible transportation or shift scheduling experience in a computerized environment.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in math, accounting, sociology, logistics, urban planning, transportation planning, engineering, statistics, banking, geography, information technology, business, public administration, industrial engineering or related field can be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
Four (4) years responsible transit scheduling experience in a computerized environment.

Physical Requirements:
Work in this position is primarily performed in an office environment. However, the incumbent will be expected to physically access various areas of Metro Transit, which includes large bus storage and maintenance facilities, and attend offsite meetings on occasion. Traveling around the City of Madison to conduct field checks to determine loading conditions and the ability to access fixed route buses will also be required.
