The PRN Perioperative Nurse is assigned to tasks such as patient admission & assessment, establishing intravenous access, assisting anesthesia provider with block administration, circulating in the operating room, postoperative recovery of patients, & patient/family discharge teaching.

Responsibilities
- Basic understanding of perioperative equipment & policies related to: Patient care monitor, patient gurney, glucometer, pregnancy testing devices, medical gases, operating microscope, phacoemulsification machine, electrosurgical unit, LASERs, AED, & defibrillator.
- Maintenance of electronic medical record.
- Ability to provide appropriate education to patient and their families
- Ability to utilize general nursing foundation to formulate a patient specific plan, act as the patient’s advocate, and relay information (report) to others during patient “hand off.”
- Ability to apply Perioperative & Ophthalmic Nursing Principles to the care of the patient, especially as they relate to perioperative policies/instructions; and postoperative care of vision impaired, sedated patients who have received ophthalmic anesthetic blocks.
- Administer medications safely, adhering to Safe Injection Practices and their implications.
- Participate in Supply Inventory Maintenance.
- Adherence to Infection Control Policies & Procedures.
- Familiarity with Medical Emergency Preparedness Policies & Procedures.
- Willingness to increase awareness related to regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.
- Willingness to participate in Quality Improvement Program
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice nursing in the state of Colorado
- Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Perioperative Nursing Experience
- Other Specialty Nursing Experience (ICU, ER, OB)
- Documented IV experience outside of training program
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification

- Offered pay range $38.00/Hr-$44.00/Hr.
