Role Summary

Key Responsibilities

Plan, organize, direct, and control activities related to the Purchasing and Production Control & Logistics functions with the objective of optimizing the total cost of purchases, Logistics cost and Inventory Turns, utilizing the sources vented out by MPT corporate Purchasing and Supplier Development.
Lead development strategic supply chain for the division
Assist in analysis of new trends in market & technology
Supports quote process to customer and works with Program Manager at early stage of Program definition
Assist in processing design changes requests and be a part of the change management team until PPAP
Provide supplier launch readiness to program management on a regular base
Participate in simultaneous engineering meeting and forward status and open issues to Program team
Maintain supplier relationships that are both productive and mutually beneficial while continually searching for and participate in re-negotiating cost savings on new sourcing opportunities, with current and / or new suppliers.
Ensure suppliers respond appropriately to the program management requirements including issues of delivery, cost or quality up to PPAP.
Responsible for planning and scheduling of material procurement.
Responsible to Manage production scheduling to ensure continuous meeting of customer requirements.

Responsible for calculating all material purchasing requirements based on the quantity on hand, forecasted requirements, manufacturing lead times, purchasing lead times. Maintain and update MRP and release data system.
Responsible for ensuring efficient levels of inventory are maintained at all times and customer requirements are met.
Responsible for all shipments in-out of the building to ensure compliance to customer requirements.
Maintain Supplier Web and MRP system by ensuring cycle counts are accurate and done in a timely manner.
Responsible for customers’ satisfaction through delivery, service and quality. Ensures that Materials Department works efficiently with all departments to coordinate movement of product to meet customer requirements. Prepare daily and weekly releases for all material suppliers, (packaging, steel, components, etc.), to ensure that customer requirements are met. Ensure all releases are sent in timely manner and ASN’s are received from suppliers upon shipment of goods.

Accountable for the management of inventory turns, cycle counts and inventory accuracy,
Determine the macro production schedule based on customer demand and support and provide directions to production planning initiatives,
Responsible for planning, coordination and execution of physical inventory activities, verifying and engaging in reconciliation process of inventory variances, explanation of variances and provide root cause analysis and corrective actions,
Ensure all MRO Items are ordered and stored based on MIN/MAX Levels and no shortages impact day-to-day operations of the division,
Responsible for ensuring and managing all storage areas pertaining to components, raw material and finished goods as per MAFACT guild lines,
Ensure all NAFTA requirements are met and data is provided to Magna NAFTA Compliance team on time,
Responsible for ensuring preservation, protection and safe handling of all customer packaging and ensure no dunnage / packaging shortages for all customer-provided returnable dunnage, broken dunnage is replaced on a timely basis,
Ensure adequate dunnage is available with safety stocks to meet the production requirements,


Key Qualifications/Requirements

Responsible for expediting product required as needed and ensure that shipping department works with Production Supervisors, Purchasing, Quality Assurance Department and other departments as necessary.
Responsible for shipping/receiving staff to ensure that duties and responsibilities of each are carried out in a competent manner, following all safety rules and plant standards.
Manages the daily shipment of product to the customer. Communicate any material shortages to the Operations Manager
Responsible for resolving any delivery violations with the customers and to prevent any reoccurrence.
Arranges retrieval of all customer requirements through EDI or other methods.
Responsible for generation of daily pick list based on customer requirements, ensures organization and staging of all shipments.
Ensures Organization of shipments with assigned trucking companies.
Work cooperatively with peers to implement consistent policies, procedures, strategies, and reporting
Prepare Monthly, Quarterly Reports for Material Cost & Logistics Performance and Open Issues – Highlights on a timely basis. Resolve any disputes that may exist.
Chair Weekly Logistics Team meetings, keep track of KMIs, Open Issues, Supplier Cost Recoveries and other assigned by General Manager.
Communicate the necessary information to General Manager to assist in decision making and strategy formulation
Responsible for promoting and seeking excellence in all aspects of business.
Develop, implement, and manage fully integrated Materials policy align with the Manufacturing, Purchasing and Logistic operations to support the Production requirements including Launches, Product life cycle, Service and End of the Program (EOP) planning and execution,
Ensure inventory accuracy is maintained in all levels of parts,
Ensure 0% Premium Freight is incurred,
Manage the supplier sourcing process, continually identifying alternative suppliers based on quality, cost and service,
Ensure FIFO principals are applied in the management of material flow through out 14Mile and 15Mile Plants in Warehouse, WIP and Steel/Blanks Storage areas,
Ensure 100% delivery performance to all customers,
Responsible for the cost savings in the supply chain management,
Ensure inventory obsolescence are avoided through engineering change management process,

Determine annual cost reduction targets on product inputs,
Engage in contract negotiation with suppliers to meet the division’s production needs, focusing to achieve annual reduction in costs of components, raw material and transportation,
Support and engage with Magna Powertrain Corporate sales team to identify financial opportunities with regard to design, supplier, and volume changes,
Develop strategic plans for all aspects of materials management and implementation,
Travel may be required.
Work well with others in a team.
Performs Layered Process Audits (LPA’s).
Active participation in MAFACT Teams and activities as required.
Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions.
C-TPAT Support as required.
Responsible for MAFACT Requirements and Improvements according the responsibilities.
Responsible to create Actions Plans, Corrective Actions and Improvements required according the responsibilities. (Ex: 8ds, FR, LPAs, MAFACT Score, Magna Audits Findings, Customer Requirements, MMOG, C-TPAT and Others as required).
Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including TS16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment)

Additional Information

  • 10 years of experience in Purchasing, Production Control or Accounts Payable (Finance) or related field within a manufacturing facility in automotive industry.
  • BS Degree required with a business or technical emphasis
  • Excellent skills and experience in contract negotiation and price negotiation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven understanding, planning and execution of production schedules
  • Familiarity in automotive engineering, including various levels of exposure and strategic experience with: product design, product development, and product validation.
  • Familiarity in sheet metal forming solutions is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a consensus builder as a supervisor.
  • Finely developed internal and external customer service capabilities.
  • Consistent ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter, which includes a commitment to fair treatment and a safe and healthful workplace.
