Position Summary: Responsible for providing direction and leadership for the testing team at the Shape Aluminum Center in Trenton, OH. Ensuring sound engineering practices are followed in combination with innovative solutions for the company's testing processes which together place the testing group as a top resource within the company.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:

• Provide leadership and prioritization of testing activities for the testing technician(s) and egineering co-op students.
• Create and provide sound reporting on testing activities.
• Create and improve upon the testing processes.
• Read, research and comprehend various customer specifications, along with technical standards such as ASTM, JIS, and SAE specifications
• Responsible for maintaining and/or driving to conformance of IATF 16949
• Actively develop and improve on data reporting.
• Maintain equipment and software and continually improve robustness of systems. This is includes active support and proble solving of data acquisition system.
• Develop lab capabilities allowing for research and development activities for aluminum alloy and application development
• Maintain the lab with a 5S philosophy; own lab cleanliness and organization.

• Staff Management:
  • Conduct timely and complete performance evaluations of direct associates; and ensure timely and complete performance evaluation of associates reporting under your indirect supervision.
  • Assess subordinates skill sets, current and future development needs and take steps to mentor and develop them appropriately.
  • Set direction of department and hold individuals accountable to performance standards and strategic objectives.

• Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.

Position Skills and Experience Requirements:

• Experience with testing of aluminum products preferred
• Strong understanding on ASTM, JIS, CQI9 (AIAG), and SAE material testing standard.
• Familiarity with handling of chemicals (acids and bases)
• Basic metallographic techniques (mounting/polishing, etching, …)
• Knowledge of advanced material characterization techniques preferred (OES, SEM, EDS, DSC, XRD,…)
• Knowledge of Watlow thermal controllers preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering.
• Minimum 3 years previous experience in an engineering test laboratory.
• Previous leadership or proven ability to lead engineers preferred.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft office, LabView, and DIAdem.
