Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA) is an award-winning, 150-person structural and civil engineering firm headquartered in Seattle for 104 years. We are seeking a full-time Content Editor to work collaboratively with our Marketing team and Senior Leadership as we pursue world-class structural and civil engineering projects worldwide.

Essential Functions

The primary focus of the Content Editor is to proofread, edit, write, and research company communications and materials. The Content Editor will be part of MKA’s Marketing Department, which requires working directly with the executive team daily. Successful candidates will:

  • Provide copy editing/writing, substantive editing, and proofreading services for materials across the organization. Ensure that content is clear and compelling, is appropriate for the target audience, and reflects the company’s tone and quality standards. Projects include:

— Proposals

— Infographics

— Internal and External Communications

— Technical Reports

— Award Submissions

— Magazine Articles

— Case Studies of Projects

— Website and Intranet Posts

— Monthly Newsletter

— E-blasts/Mailers/Press Releases

— Brochures/Flyers

  • Effectively create, write, and revise content using MKA brand-standard templates within MS Word, Adobe, and InDesign, working through multiple drafts
  • Work with senior-level firm leaders to create unique, high-quality, marketing materials
  • Serve as integral member of the Marketing team, participating in meetings, strategy sessions, and department projects
  • Work independently to meet deadlines and provide marketing administrative and proposal creation assistance between deadlines, as needed, which may include use of CRM system and website WordPress site
Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge/familiarity with AP and Chicago styles or authoring custom company brand standard styles
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to produce editorial content
  • Previous experience in science or engineering fields, or demonstrated ability and desire to learn the technical aspects of the projects and firm
  • Ability to multi-task and schedule day/week around multiple ongoing deadlines and other work
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, applied with a high degree of professionalism and customer service-oriented attitude ready to assist and engage engineers and teammates with their daily writing and marketing needs
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented and with strong organization and excellent note taking skills
  • Effective critical thinking skills able to communicate with technical and non-technical staff and question/discuss technical information to facilitate more understandable client-facing information
  • Excellent time management skills, including organization and prioritization
  • Appreciation of company brand standards
  • Desire to bond and collaborate with a team and provide coaching for better writing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field with technical/professional writing experience and/or certifications
  • Writing samples demonstrating strong business writing and editorial skills
  • Experience with A/E/C industry and/or RFP/RFQ response writing preferred, but not required
  • Experience writing for a newspaper or other type of business publication preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency using marketing and presentation software is preferred. May include experience with:

— Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

— Adobe Creative Suite (focus on Acrobat and InDesign)

— Open Asset

— Deltek Vision

— WordPress
