Overview
At Mahaska Health A Cardiactric Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and guides patient teaching and aids the physician/nurse practitioner/physician’s assistant in all aspects, while maintaining standards of professional nursing in accordance with the established methods and procedures of Mahaska Health and the Medical Group.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- All duties will be performed per the scope of practice and cardiology policy.
- Assesses and documents physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients at the clinic.
- Prepares for and assists with office procedures.
- Establishes treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnosis.
- Documents nursing intervention and patient response.
- Accurately prepares and administers medications as directed by the provider.
- Documents and reports on adverse effects of medications.
- Properly documents immunizations and medications.
- Performs procedures such as (but not limited to) injections, immunizations, phlebotomy, tympanogram, EKGs, vision screening, etc.
- Makes referrals to other providers and facilities as directed by the provider.
- Triages and returns phone calls effectively and in a timely manner.
- Reports test results to patients with instructions from the provider in a timely manner.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Use the Electronic Medical Record system according to established guidelines.
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for keeping exam rooms clean and stocked, and replenishing supplies and meds as indicated.
- Provides patient and family education at their level of understanding.
- Organizes workload effectively to accomplish patient care in a timely manner.
- Conducts self in accordance with Mahaska Health Partnership’s confidentiality policy and follows all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
- Maintains a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person’s unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health Partnership’s Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).
- Attends required in-service programs and staff meetings.
- Participates in training and education to foster continued professional growth and assure high-quality care delivery.
- All other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa (or) a graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse able to work in the state of Iowa. Two years of RN experience is preferred.
- Cardiac patient experience preferred.
- Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.
- Required to show proof of having completed the Mandatory Reporter Course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of the start date.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
