- Supports long term supplier strategy, cost management, and significant engagement with Engineering, Product Development, Logistics, and Manufacturing. Obtain the optimum combination of cost, quality, delivery and service from suppliers.
- Work within the division locally and globally to determine best business practice for the specific program or need.
- Continuous market review of suppliers utilizing MAHLE Filtration Systems specification and standards.
- Develop an in-depth product and process knowledge base about the commodity and global supplier base including thorough understanding of the entire value added chain and cost drivers through supplier workshops, plant visits, technical reviews, international contracts, benchmarking activity, etc.
- Issue RFQ's (Request for Quote). Negotiate with target/preferred suppliers for best cost, quality and delivery conditions related to supply.
- As required, support Engineering Change Requests and Cost Savings Projects.
- Issue purchase orders.
- Creation of a tooling asset management process for all outside tools. This will entail locating tools, tagging, proof of ownership and log.
- Creation, present to Purchasing, and implement a process for service parts management.
- Engage cross-functional team in cost savings activities for assigned programs and manage savings projects through implementation.
- Working collectively with our legal department on contract development and management.
- Provide continuing assessment of the business climate, market conditions, and key supplier information to provide input for internal forecasting requirements.
- Monitor of supply base, evaluate risk, and develop countermeasures.
- Comply with all applicable laws/policies governing the buyer/seller relationship and conduct business in an ethical way to represent the company in the best possible manner.
- Development and management of own personal improvement plan
- Other duties may be assigned to support Purchasing needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial) is required; CPM or CPIM, a plus.
- 3 years of related purchasing experience in a Tier 1 environment is required. Previous experience with CAPEX purchases and experience buying tooling, assemblies and fixtures is needed.
- Negotiation, financial cost analysis, market analysis, continuous improvement, problem solving, time and project management skills. Ability to read blue prints and specifications required.
- Proven ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines. Must be able to manage/coordinate multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Previous exposure or participation in VA/VE and re-engineering is a plus.
- Knowledge of logistics, manufacturing processes, commodity markets and futures, and a strong understanding of component and product functionality are important assets.
