DEFINITION:
An employee in this position performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery, buildings, and equipment. Work involves responsibility for proficiency in a number of trades, with working conditions and degree of supervision exercised differing according to the location and nature of the assignments. The employee exercised technical independence in determining work methods and procedures and receives assignments/tasks verbally or through written instructions which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams. Review of work is received from technical or administrative supervisors through inspections and discussions
QUALIFICATIONS:
Working familiarity with or experience cleaning and routine mechanical maintenance of gas and diesel vehicles. Ability to perform manual labor under dirty or uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather conditions. Ability for continuous physical effort, including frequent bending, walking, manipulation of and heavy lifting of equipment and tool. Previous experience of sufficient length of time to provide competency in all necessary skills areas. Ability to work irregular shifts
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Building and Property Maintenance
1. Weekly walk-through to identify any needed repairs to plumbing, electrical, windows, or structure. Submit repair list to Operations Manager for scheduling.
2. Interior and Exterior painting/staining as assigned.
• Knowledge of painting using manual and powered methods.
3. Winter shut down of cabins
• Turn off water and drain all lines
• Turn off electricity
• Turn off gas if appliances present
• Secure all windows and doors
4. Perform weekly security check of all buildings on Camp property
5. Clean and service all hand equipment after each use.
• Keep shop neat and orderly at all times. Keep all tools in proper location
• Ensure all landscaped areas are weed-free and replanted with appropriate seasonal plants
• Responsible for care and upkeep and maintenance of the pool.
• Assist the Operations Manager in maintaining all ACA standards.
Carpentry
1. Assist the Operations manager with the design and construction of all special project requests. This would include, but is not limited to: assembly, painting and project clean-up
2. Perform general repair and restoration as needed or assigned by the Operations Manager. This would include, but not limited to: fences, gates, stairs, porches, decks, benches, picnic tables, etc.
Groundskeeping/Water Systems
1. Maintain grounds by mowing, trimming, ground preparation, fertilizing, spraying, irrigation, seeding, and landscaping.
2. Maintain lawn equipment and maintenance records
3. Maintain general ground cleanup and trash removal
4. Assist in general maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities.
5. Monitor water system and maintain chlorinator
6. Maintain accurate work order requests and submit to Operations Manager
7. Maintain a neat and clean appearance (working circumstances the exception)
Group Host – As needed
1. See “Weekend Host Addendum” for Host protocol.
2. Supervise any support staff assigned to group.
3. Maintain high standard of cleanliness and sanitation in dining hall at all times.
4. Supervise all dining hall and Camp cleanup immediately after the last meal of the scheduled group.
Vehicle and Small Engine Mechanic (all vehicles in fleet, tractor, mule, and small engine equipment)
Assist the Operations Manger with the following duties:
1. Basic diagnostic assessment on all vehicles and small engine equipment and perform as necessary repairs as needed. This would include, but is not limited to: minor tune-ups, fluid level check and refills, chassis lubrication, tire pressure checks, brake checks and service, transmission checks, and service.
2. Maintenance of a detailed log of all service and repairs performed on vehicles and Equipment including work sent out.
3. Meet quarterly with Camp Administrator and Operations Manager to participate in setting priorities and recommendations for repairs, remodeling, and replacement of facilities and equipment.
4. Notify the Operations Manager when vehicles and equipment need to be sent out for major repair.
5. Arrange for the purchase of needed shop supplies with the Operations Manager.
General Duties –
Assist the Operations Manager in any duties as requested in order to maintain a consistently high level of efficiency in the operation of the Camp program.
