What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook - Temporary position at Main Salvation Army?
OVERVIEW:
The Cook works under the supervision of the Head Chef in a kitchen that operates seven-days per week. The cook assists in meal production for the San Francisco Harbor Light Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in food preparation, meal production, service, and clean-up
- Implement planned menus on assigned shifts
- Set up workstations with needed ingredients and equipment
- Maintain a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen and food service area
- Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping, peeling, cutting, etc.)
- Monitor food item quality at all stages of the cooking process
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
- Ensure all food and items are stored correctly
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers, participants, and all guests
- Responsible for California Adult Food Program record keeping such as attendance and meal production sheets
- Assist in special meal production for activities/programs
- Answer, report to, and follow instruction from Food Services Manager, Food Services Ass Supervisor, and/or Executive Director
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience in an institutional cooking setting or similar (1 year preferred)
- Experience using various types of knives and cutting tools, cookware, ingredients, procedures, and equipment
- California Food Handler's Card or ServSafe® Certificate (required)
- Tuberculosis clearance (within first seven days of employment – company provided)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods
- Team Player
- Great communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
