Job Title: Communications and Digital Intern
Supervisor: Communications Manager
Timeframe: June 3rd, 2024 - August 9th, 2024 - 32 hours/week
Compensation: $16/hour
Location: Maine. MCV/MCA has physical offices in Augusta and Portland. This position is a hybrid combination of in person and remote work.
Maine Conservation Voters and Maine Conservation Alliance (MCV/MCA) are seeking a highly motivated summer intern to assist in engaging the public about implementing bold climate, clean energy, and environmental policies through our digital platforms, earned media, and events. This intern will be a key member of our team, and will help create and launch innovative social media, web, video, and email campaigns; recruit new activists; educate our supporter base on the latest environmental, climate, and voting rights developments; and mobilize our membership to take meaningful online and offline action.
The intern will also receive extensive opportunities to learn about the internal operations of MCV/MCA , the environmental policymaking process generally, and MCV/MCA’s work in a number of coalitions.
As part of the internship, the intern will organize a Maine Conservation Voices storytelling event. Since early 2023, MCV has been hosting “storytelling workshops” to provide volunteers with the tools and guidance needed to tell their story as it relates to important environmental issues and policies – in the form of letters to the editor and public testimony. Our summer intern will organize, recruit, and host an in-person storytelling workshop to engage volunteers and supporters and generate stories that advance our goal of protecting the environment in Maine.

Applicants should be highly motivated and organized with a passion for digital and written storytelling, climate action, and voting rights. Applicants should share our commitment to weaving racial justice and equity into the work we do and ensuring an inclusive organizational culture.
Applicants must also have strong writing and communication skills and the ability to work independently on multiple projects with varying deadlines. Proficiency with Google Suite, Canva, and various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads) is preferred.

Candidates from historically marginalized communities, who are on the front lines of harm caused by climate change and voter suppression, are encouraged to bring their lived as well as technical expertise to this position and the team.
