The Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a non-profit organization that provides advocacy services for residents of nursing homes, residential care, assisted living, adult day services and for recipients of home care services. Join our growing team as a Regional Ombudsman to make a difference in the lives of older and disabled individuals who need long-term services and supports. The Regional Ombudsman position requires frequent travel to visit residents of long-term care facilities. Knowledge of long-term services and supports, strong communication and interpersonal skills, professionalism, and problem-solving skills are important to the success of the role. The Regional Ombudsman position covers Aroostook county. The Regional Ombudsman is a remote position with occasional travel to the Augusta office. The ability to work independently while still being part of a strong team of advocates is necessary.

Responsibilities:

-Serve as a Regional Ombudsman, advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals in nursing homes, residential care, and assisted living facilities. Frequent travel required.

-Resolve concerns identified by long-term care consumers regarding access to or quality of long-term care services.

-Work collaboratively with the Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies.

- Conduct regular visits to facilities to monitor and assess the quality of care provided.

- Provide information and assistance to residents regarding their rights, available services, and complaint resolution processes.

- Collaborate with community organizations, government agencies, etc. to address systemic issues and improve the quality of care.

- Educate residents, families, and facility staff on resident rights and best practices in long-term care.

- Maintain accurate records of complaints, investigations, and resolutions.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualities:

-Bachelor’s degree in a health and human services related field OR an associate degree with 3 years of experience in long-term care service.

-Must have reliable transportation

-Hybrid remote and on the road

-Extensive knowledge of Maine long-term care systems as well as aging and disability resources

-Excellent organizational and time management skills

-Ability to engage effectively in problem solving and empower others to do so

-Strong communication and interpersonal skills

-Problem-solving and mediation skills

-Ability to work collaboratively with a passionate team of advocates
