Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Full Time, 40 hours per week
This is a highly skilled professional patient care position responsible, within the parameters defined by regulation of the State of Maine, The Maine Medical Center and the Department for the assessment and management of patients. In addition, the Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is continuously involved in the clinical teaching of Maine Medical Center House Officers and medical students during their respective rotations. The Physician Assistant/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the undertaking and completion of assigned departmental administrative tasks such as preparation of x-ray rounds.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Graduate of an American Medical Association approved primary care physician assistant education program or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. Maintain certification.
- Ability to effectively establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with staff physicians, nursing and allied health professionals, other hospital staff and patients. Act as liaison between medical and other staff.
- Registration with the Maine State Board of Registration in Medicine.
- Ability to perform routine technical skills including suturing, phlebotomy and arterial puncture for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
- Ability to tailor diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to age-specific standards for infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
- Previous APP experience required.
- Current license issued by the State of Maine or eligible for licensure.
- Experience in emergency medicine preferred, not required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively triage, organize and prioritize.
- Ability to function as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
