Human Resources Generalist
As Human Resources Generalist, you will deliver measurable results in attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining a talented and diverse staff who change students’ lives and transform student outcomes. You will accomplish this as part of a Human Resources department working with others throughout the district to support:
- Compliant and inclusive hiring practices that widen the net of qualified, diverse, and interested candidates and enable us to identify and secure the strongest applicants
- Development and implementation of professional learning and accountability systems that result in measurable, improved practice/performance and outcomes
- People-centered talent policies that celebrate, strengthen, and value our staff
- Monitoring and measurement of staff engagement coupled with prioritized initiatives, programs, and resources to address emerging challenges and opportunities
- Shaping and maintaining high-performing, data-driven, inclusive,and supportive district culture
- An efficient Human Resources department that maximizes client service and enhances operational effectiveness, with improved structures and systems

Qualifications:

Proven HR professional with enthusiasm, passion, and a demonstrated track record of success in human resource management. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. 3 plus years human resources generalist experience preferred as well as experience with human resource management systems (e.g., Cornerstone). Industry-recognized HR certifications, such as SHRM-CP or PHR a plus. We encourage HR professionals with a background in or outside education to apply.
Responsibilities:
The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for:
Strategic Talent Management
- Manage the continual refinement of the districts digital human resource management system (Cornerstone) which includes the following key modules: recruitment, selection, on-boarding, performance evaluation, and professional learning
- Maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions
- Support Talent Acquisition initiatives with recruitment, selection and hiring of a diverse, and effective workforce that meets the district’s needs
- Stay up-to-date with the latest HR trends and best practices
- Develop and deliver comprehensive onboarding programs for all staff
- Ensure a strong Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion focus to all Talent strategy and operations
- Monitor key human resource and organizational metrics to support data-based decision-making
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advocacy
- Be seen and heard as a champion for all RSU 21 staff and students
- Support a data-driven, compliant, district strategy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion goals, plans, and results
Learning and Development
- Support the Department’s efforts to increase engagement, create impactful professional learning, and implement meaningful and instructive accountability and feedback systems that result in improved staff practices and measurable improvements in student achievement
- Provide guidance to identify and develop critical competencies that meet the organization’s Talent needs including coaching, mentoring, knowledge-sharing techniques and other career development strategies
Total Compensation
- Support the design and oversight of total compensation strategies that support RSU 21’s strategic direction and talent needs
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the ADP system to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information
HR Practices and Policies
- Respond to human resources-related inquiries
- Support collective bargaining through market analysis and data reporting
- Support best practices for employee retention in HR programs, practices and policies
- Support employee relations and engagement using varied channels including staff surveys, focus groups and other methods of employee feedback to give staff a strong voice in shaping district direction
- Administer employee entry, stay, and exit surveys and interviews to inform continual improvement to district policies and programs
Climate and Culture
- Help to cultivate and strengthen a trusting, transparent, engaging and goal-oriented district-wide climate and culture through deliberate and intentional strategies
- Incorporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion goals into all HR programs, practices and policies
- Support the development and implementation of district-wide programs, practices and policies that lead to a diverse workforce and inclusive culture
HR Operations & Administration
- Provide back-up support to the ADP Payroll and Benefits Specialists
- Support open enrollment, qualified status changes, training, and employee and family communication for employee benefits programs
- Provide guidance to employees on Human Resources policy and procedure
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements and oversee employee labor laws and regulations to assure compliance
- Support ongoing Risk Management, including the district's health and safety program, ensuring OSHA compliance; oversee worker's compensation.
- Work in collaboration with external partners (e.g., MEA Benefits Trust) to enhance health, wellness, and safety within the district.
- Oversee the district's FMLA process and ensure compliance with federal, state, and contractual mandates.
- Process employee complaints and assist in any necessary investigations and disciplinary actions
- Reinforce the district's policies, rules, and procedures to ensure employees safety and wellbeing
- Maintain employee records and paperwork
- Create and maintain HR Procedures for the HR Department at RSU 21
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Human Resources

Terms of Employment: 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Total Compensation consistent with Board policy.
