  • Position Summary
    • Respiratory Therapists work under the Manager of Respiratory Care and the charge therapist in providing all therapeutic, supportive and monitoring modalities to patients as prescribed by physicians or by departmental protocols in all areas of the hospitals. The Respiratory Therapist Level 4 (RT4) has atleast five years of professional respiratory experience in a hospital and is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a State of Maine Registered Therapist license. The RT 4 is an expert Respiratory Therapist who possesses in depth knowledge and experience gained from working with multiple similar situations over time. The RT4 is highly educated in cardiopulmonary pathology, respiratory diagnostic techniques, treatment methods, equipment selection and maintenance for chronic, acute and emergent care in all hospital areas including intensive care. The RT4 is adept at patient assessment, the analysis of clinical data and the formulation of patient care plans. The RT4 provides expert, complex patient and family care using clinical experience to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Respiratory Therapist at this level exhibit qualities determined by departmental consensus to be essential characteristics of Respiratory Therapist at the top of the advancement program.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Graduate of an AMA approved program in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent.
    • License/Certifications: Must hold and maintain credentialing from the National Board of Respiratory Care as an RRT. Licensed by the Maine Board of Respiratory Care Practitioners as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in Maine. Holds and maintains credentials in BLS and NRP. PALS and ACLS certifications preferred.
    • Experience: A minimum of five years' practical experience with atleast one year’s experience at Southern Maine Health Care.
    • Competent to assume preceptor responsibilities.
    • Must hold and maintain the level at the top of the advancement program.
    • Respiratory Therapist working in Pulmonary Function Lab credentialed as a Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT ) is preferred.
    • RPFT must maintain credentialing from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
