Job Summary
Mainline seeks an experienced Services VDI -VMware Systems Engineer (SE) in the Los Angeles, CA area to join the Open System Services group. The responsibility of this group is to provide solutions for various Open Systems, x86 Server environments. The primary focus of this position is to deliver virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions based on VMware software and technology. The SE must have a strong understanding of the following:
- VMware's End User Computing (EUC) Portfolio including, but not limited to:
- Horizon
- App Volumes
- User Environment Manager
- Unified Access Gateway
- ThinApp
- Just-In-Time Management Platform
- Windows 10 Desktop Management including, but not limited to:
- OS Installation and Configuration
- OS Patching and Updates
- OS Security and Hardening
- Active Directory
- Group Policy Management
- User Data and Profile Management
- Application Delivery and Management
- Client Device Management including, but not limited to:
- Windows PCs and Laptops
- MacOS Devices
- iOS Devices
The VDI-VMware Systems Engineer (SE) within the Open Systems group satisfies our customer's business and IT challenges. This is a billable role.
SE must have strong technical skills complimented by relationship skills and are viewed as a consultant to the customer. They are valued because of their ability to analyze a customer's business and IT challenges and then implements a comprehensive solution that integrates smoothly into the customer's environment leveraging the appropriate products.
This SE must reside in the Los Angeles area. This position requires the SE to be on-site at the client location 5 days per week.
The Services VDI-VMware System Engineer (SE) role will require a well-rounded individual with very solid technical background as well as a proven history of successful interaction with customers. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required. Must have the ability to work in a collaborative manner with clients.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Professional certifications are an ongoing requirement. Must have a VCP or VCP-DTM and be willing to keep certifications up to date. Additional certifications may be needed as required.
- VMware Horizon Enterprise 7.x Installation and Configuration
- VMware vSphere 6.x Installation and Configuration
- Windows Sever 2012/2016 Installation and Configuration
- Windows 10 Installation and Configuration
- General Security Knowledge related to Hardening Endpoints and Virtual Desktops
- Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy Management
- File and Print services, DFS
- SQL Server Installation and Configuration
- Requires up to 5 days onsite at the client location
- Strong Troubleshooting Skills
- Demonstrates proactive, self-starter, skills and can gather necessary requirements and complete tasks autonomously.
- Ability to learn new concepts, technologies, and systems and apply that knowledge to existing concepts, systems, and technologies.
- Desire to learn about digital video surveillance management tools - on the job training will be provided. Prior experience with Milestone Xprotect Corporate is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install and configure new VDI solutions including any supporting infrastructure as needed
- Upgrade existing VDI environments using the appropriate methodology to ensure minimal impact to existing systems
- Assist with the pre-sales design and post-sales delivery of VDI solutions and the adjacent systems involved
- Perform Health Checks, Capacity Planning and Performance Assessments as needed and provide customer guidance and insights regarding the information presented.
- Gather the necessary customer requirements, objectives and success criteria to ensure satisfactory project completion.
- Provide written documentation including screen shots, installation and configuration notes for customer deliverables

- Experience with Enterprise Networking
- Experience with Enterprise Storage
- Experience with Enterprise Servers
- Experience with VMware's Digital Workspace Portfolio consisting of Workspace ONE, Unified Endpoint Manager (Formerly Airwatch), Horizon Enterprise, and Identity Manager
- Experience with Scripting Solutions or Automation
Education and/or Experience
- BA or BS or equivalent required.
- Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years' experience managing and implementing VMware VDI solutions.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
- Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment.
- Ability to travel. Various means of travel may be required, including auto and air travel. This position requires travel: RARELY
- May be required to work irregular schedules including but not limited to as applicable: Nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and/or overtime.
