What are the responsibilities and job description for the Delegating Nurse position at Makom?
At Makom, we are looking for qualified nurses!
If selected for the position, you will function as Delegating Nurse in accordance with Maryland and Virginia Regulations, for Makom Individuals as assigned.
The Delegation will remain in compliance with Maryland State Board of Nursing Regulations, 10.27.11 Delegation of Nursing Functions, Virginia Commonwealth Board of Nursing Regulations, and Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration regulations as they apply to Makom/Makom Individuals and with Makom policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform and document nursing assessments on Makom Individuals, as assigned, every 45 days or more frequently as determined by the individual needs of a Makom client.
- Ensure all documentation is current.
- Provide copies of completed assessments to all administrators, as requested.
- Develop nursing care plans for assigned Individuals that will be updated as necessary at each nursing visit.
- Identify specific staff responsibilities pertaining to the Individual’s needs.
- Identify nursing functions which may be safely delegated to appropriately trained, non-licensed staff per regulations.
- Identify appropriate implementation plans for ensuring nursing/medical care is provided when functions may not be delegated
Communication Responsibilities
- Complete all communication, documentation and telephone notification in a timely manner.
- Telephone calls from staff will be returned within 15 minutes unless other arrangements have been made and approved of in advance.
- Nursing assessments will be documented within the 45-day time-frame or sooner if there are changes in health needs.
- Participate in all meetings pertinent to ensuring that client medical care is addressed. This care may cover physical, medication, and psychiatric/behavioral needs. This includes, but may not be limited to:
- Accompanying Individuals, when needed, to medical appointments
- Participating in Individual Planning meetings, when requested
- Consulting with staff on health and/or medication-related issues.
- Consultation with Makom administration, supervisory staff, families and consulting nurses.
- Advise Makom administrators of the need for input and support of healthcare concerns that could include medication, physical or psychiatric/behavioral issues pertinent to ensuring the health and well-being of Individuals.
- Provide backup coverage for other clinical nurses.
- Coordinate the completion of the requirements for the state required medication administration training/reauthorization/2 year Maryland Board of Nursing clinical update.
- Train non-licensed staff in the performance of non-medication related nursing functions. These tasks may then be delegated under RN supervision.
- Assess, as needed, the capabilities of non-licensed staff in safely performing any delegated nursing function.
- Function as a liaison with Maryland and Virginia Boards of Nursing to ensure Makom staff compliance with COMAR and VA Regulations.
- Participate in Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration and Maryland Association of Community Service Providers (MACS) nurse training/meetings/programs and other meetings as assigned.
The Delegating Nurse will teach the following courses and complete all administrative work and documentation associated with these training, in approximately a monthly basis.
- Medication Administration Training Program for staff administering medications in Virginia and Maryland.
- CPR
- First Aid
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Communicable Diseases
- Other health-related training as assigned
