Position Summary:
Working closely with Property Management and the facility services team, the Energy Engineer will provide expert technical support for all utilities & energy efficiency programs. This position will inspect and/or monitor utilities, building automation and/or energy management systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical, lighting or daylighting systems, and domestic water systems to determine energy use, monitor consumption and/or potential energy savings. To best serve our clients, the Energy Engineer will build and present a business case for energy efficiency measures, prioritize recommendations and provide information on how different measures will affect savings. This position will be responsible for and/or highly involved in designing, developing, and evaluating all energy related projects for cost reduction and improvement of energy efficiency.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in math, finance, engineering, energy management, IT or similar analytical discipline
- A minimum of 5 years related work experience with knowledge of building HVAC systems, energy efficiency, utilities, sustainability concepts and LEED frameworks
- Ability to collect, combine and analyze data from various sources and generate reports and graphics. Must be able to combine large volumes of data for consolidated reporting.
- Prior experience with Energy & Utility Management software, including Energy Star Portfolio Manager or similar tools, is a plus
- Prior experience with Building & Energy Modeling and Analytics software, such as DOE2, Trace, etc. is a plus
- Prior experience, including programing or sequencing or operations with Building Automation Systems, such as Triduum Niagara, Trane Tracer Summit, JCI Metasys, etc. is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with computers and various software's, including Microsoft Suite of Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management, project management and follow-through
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to work across multiple departments and units within an organization
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct energy audits to evaluate energy use and to identify conservation and cost reduction measures
- Assist with the annual budgeting & capital planning process to identify energy savings projects, rates of return and provide simple payback calculations
- Provide monthly energy reporting including cost reduction & savings typically 10-15% annually
- Responsible for identifying and applying for utility rebates both prescriptive & custom for gas, water and electric
- Investigate and recommend process improvement solutions that will make the utilities management process more robust, error-free and streamlined
- Maintain completeness and accuracy of utility data, property data, etc. in databases to ensure consistency and accuracy of reporting
- Develop and implement a short and long term Building Automation / Energy Management plan with building standards, protocols and improvements
- Responsible for evaluating, recommending & implementing new technologies for Building Automation Systems, building analytics, and energy & utility management
- Actively communicate progress and issues to the Property Manager, the Facility Services team and the client
- Resolve utility account issues by working with utility companies and bill processing firms
- Deliver business analytics, special projects and other functions as requested by Management and/or client
