Captain

Sparrow Cafe at Malibu Racquet Club seeks a highly motivated individual possessing a love of food, wine and hospitality to take our restaurant's front of house service to the next level. 

This vibrant and unique setting calls for an experienced server or Captain to cohesively execute impeccable service, while guiding their team to do the same. 

Service is primarily during the day, with early dinners and special events regularly. 

Service

• Warmly welcome & seat guests. 
• Act as a representative of the organization and steward of the facility to guide patrons. 
• Communicate menu and be prepared to answer any questions or make appropriate suggestions.
• Deliver food in timely manner while paying close attention to kitchen flow and readiness.
• Bus or supervise proper and prompt bussing of tables. 
• Anticipate guests’ needs and exceed their expectations. 
• Properly handle beverage service with at least basic wine and cocktail knowledge. 
• Be willing to prepare coffee, bar or juice beverages. 
• Work mindfully as a team with back of house. 
• Be able to upsell. 
• Remain professional, positive and accommodating. 

Other Responsibilities

• Proactively complete side work.
• Keep up to date with menu and any changes. 
• Thoroughly understand wine list and potential pairings. 
• Be fluent in POS system. 
• Be punctual and reliable. 
• Adhere to uniform and hygiene standards.  

Communications

• Communicate with your Managers. Identify and report problems immediately.
• Know how and when to provide information that the Guest needs, wants, and does not yet know he/she wants, tactfully and with confidence.
• Check-in with management frequently for guidance and strategy. 

Training & Development 

• Training new and existing service team on service standards & menu consistently.
• Communicating with management regularly to establish curriculum and training schedules.
• Work with management to create team schedules.

Requirements

• 2 to 3 years in a similar position or related field experience
• Wine and spirits knowledge
• Strong communication skills and immaculate presentation
• Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in tense situations
• Ability to multi-task and coordinate with various team members

Compensation Details

• Starting at $25 per hour tips
