Job Description/Overview
The Malouf Photographer captures high-quality, contemporary, ever-evolving imagery both in studio and on location, with an emphasis on fashion. This position will lead on-figure fashion and lifestyle/social media efforts for a variety of brands and will also shoot still life product photography in studio.
The role is responsible for lighting, camera work, composition, working with models and stylists and some post production work, all while protecting the look and feel of the various Malouf brands.
Significant experience in a commercial photo studio environment, especially work with models and apparel is critical. Experience working with Capture One, as well as the Adobe suite of imagery software is also necessary. All applicants will be expected to show a portfolio of on-figure fashion and product photography.
This role requires direct interaction with a wide variety of other stakeholders, including in-house clients, art directors, stylists, models, assistants, etc. and requires the ability to interact well with all involved. The ability to understand, follow, and then improve and teach process are important, as is a strong technical understanding of photography and photo gear. Other important skills include: critical thinking, the ability to prioritize need, and problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be self-driven and looking to improve and grow a wide variety of their own skill sets over time.
Formal photographic education is preferred but not required. Experience shooting video is a plus.
This is a full-time position. General schedule is 8am-5pm Monday - Friday in the office. Part time, remote, or student schedules are not available.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Image Capture
- Capture well composed, well lit, correctly exposed, expressive on-figure fashion images in studio and on location
- Capture well-composed, well lit, well-exposed, expressive still life in studio
- Deliver clean, correctly named and organized files for retouching
- Work efficiently at a high quality level
- Work with others to drive creative look and feel of a variety of brands
- Management of set
- Lead team on set (and follow where necessary)
- Work appropriately and positively with all team members – including clients, art directors, stylists, assistants, set builders, and especially models
- Maintain file organization and naming structure
- Respect, maintain and correctly handle photo gear
- Understand, follow and improve process and procedure
- Follow formal processes and procedures
- Research, experiment, evaluate and implement new processes
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum 3 years in commercial photo environment
- Extensive on set experience
- Extensive experience with Capture One
- Technical skills: must be able to effectively (at a high quality level and at an efficient speed) execute various types of photography
- Technical skills: must be able to understand and utilize current and evolving photo technology
- Technical skills: Color: knowledge of best color management practices
- Communication skills: ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other creatives and with clients/end users
- Self-management: ability to understand and adjust priority to meet larger corporate needs
- Team skills: must be able to work well with others
- Process/procedure skills: must be able to develop, improve, employ and teach process
- Creative skills: ability to understand perspective and overall creative direction
