What are the responsibilities and job description for the Workshop - Shop Laborer position at MAN?
Summary:
Overhaul of parts in our OEM workshop, work on mechanical components, machining of parts and assist the workshop manager in related tasks..
Responsibilities include:
Carry out overhaul, inspection, and repair under direction of service manager/workshop supervisor.
Perform maintenance, operational or overhaul tasks onboard vessels under the direction of a Service or Superintendent engineer.
Perform maintenance tasks on workshop equipment.
Assist Engineers in all duties related to:
Diesel engines
Turbochargers
Propellers
Transmission Systems
Other products designed or produced by the company.
Assist in maintaining good business relationships and communication with customers by performing work to a high quality and safety standard, maintain a professional appearance and communicate with customers under the direction of a supervisor.
Embrace and assist in developing company safety and quality processes.
Use measuring tools in the various processes and actively engaged in development of skills thereof.
Be ready, willing and able to travel with minimal advance notification.
Have the ability to adapt to and perform other duties as assigned by applicable manager/supervisor.
Required Education:
Diploma as Technician , Graduate Technician or equivalent
Comparable vocational education with longtime related work experience or equivalent
Required Experience:
Sufficient experience necessary to demonstrate understanding of mechanical systems and operations are required. Experience with and theoretical/practical knowledge of diesel engines, turbochargers, pumps and cylinder heads is desired. Demonstrated ability to use various measuring tools and equipment in both metric and standard measurements. Report writing in English

Physical Requirements:
The majority of the time of this position requires standing, reaching with hands and arms to maneuver parts and/or equipment. Accessing platforms to handle or maneuver parts and/or equipment. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Field service jobs will involve climbing, walking, crawling, for extended periods of or working in small spaces. Depending on the work environment, you will be required to use the appropriate PPE to work in adverse working environment such as high sound levels, hot or cold temperatures, wind, and dusty/dirty conditions.. Ability to meet minimum safety standard of proficiency associated with regulatory/customer requirements which include, but are not limited to, waterborne proficiency, lifeboat/raft use, first-aid and ability to communicate and make decisions under pressures of emergency situations.
