Preschool Teacher Assistant Job Description
The Preschool Teacher Assistant position at Manassas Baptist Preschool requires a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a great love for children (Leave the little children alone, and don’t try to keep them from coming to me, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these (Matt. 19:14).
Qualifications needed to effectively assist the classroom teacher include the ability to receive guidance, follow directions, and positively engage children in building a mutual relationship of respect (Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3-4).
The shared goal for the teachers and staff at Manassas Baptist Preschool is to nurture children’s spiritual, mental and emotional development as they learn through engaging activities that are both teacher-directed and child-directed.
Duties:
- Assist the teacher in greeting the children with a Christ-like, loving demeanor.
- Supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times.
- Work as a team in assisting the teacher with lesson planning and material gathering/ordering to incorporate educational techniques that enrich children’s growing knowledge of God.
- Encourage children to improve their social competencies, build self-esteem and interact to resolve occasional arguments.
- Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities.
- Guide children to make spiritual connections in their learning.
- Assist the teacher in tracking children’s progress.
- Assist the teacher in communicating daily with parents.
- Collaborate and work well with other educators.
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards.
- Willing and eager to grow in your own learning through professional development opportunities.
- Organize & supervise snack, meal and nap time.
Requirements and Skills:
- Christian and active member of a local church.
- Proven work experience with children.
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms.
- Excellent communication and instructional skills.
- Work 20 hours a week: 8:30am– 12:30 pm or 8:45am – 12:45pm. More hours may be available.
- Maintain current first aid requirements.
- Required mandatory child abuse reporting training.
