Supervised by and/or Reports to: School Administration
General Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing instruction and supervision of students in the absence of a teacher.
Essential Duties:

- Provides meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms when the classroom teacher is absent
- Reviews and implements regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives
- Establishes and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment
- Reports any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration
- Communicates effectively with students, staff and other stakeholders.
- Cooperates with school personnel.
- Presents a professional image and appearance in the classroom.
- Performs other duties as directed by school administration
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Enjoys working with children and is interested in their academic growth.
- Possess problem-solving skills, imagination, patience, reasoning, creativity, judgment, and analytical abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Possess the ability to plan appropriate educational activities for students when there are no plans available or when assigned because of an emergency;
- Ability to successfully work with diverse populations;
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff;
- Be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a substitute teacher
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Some knowledge of the teaching and learning process preferred.
- Previous experience working with children/students.
- Serve as a role model.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
