ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 coding and HIPAA.
- Must have an understanding of the MDS, Medical Assistance, Medicare, and Supplemental Insurance Programs.
- Experience in LTC preferred.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Coding certification preferred.
- Employment is contingent on completion of all pre-employment screening inclusive of criminal background check and Medicaid Exclusion Screening, both indicating negative results.
- Must be organized and be able to multitask in a busy environment with interruptions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PDF and EMR software.
- Maintain an organized medical records system, which is readily accessible and systematically organized to facilitate retrieving and compiling information.
- Audit open medical records for D.O.H. regulation compliance according to current policy.
- Review and complete medical records of deceased and discharged residents for completeness and proper order in a timely manner.
- Responsible for archiving of the Medical Record.
- Responsible for the release of medical requests.
- Responsible for ICD-10 coding for MDS billing.
- Complete Social Security Administration disability reports; long-term care reports and various other insurance reports.
- Coordinate and assist with all UMR visits.
- Provide support to the Business and Billing offices as needed.
- Must be an active participant in the facility’s Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and Performance Improvement Project (PIP) and carry out roles and responsibilities as assigned.
- Comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
- Must maintain current knowledge of state and federal long-term care regulations pertaining to medical records.
- Direct oversight of Medical Records and Unit Clerk. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor.
