What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editorial Assistant position at Manhattan Institute?
Manhattan Institute (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, activists, and civic leaders who are united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities. MI’s flagship print publication, City Journal, is the nation’s premier urban-policy magazine, “the Bible of the new urbanism,” as London’s Daily Telegraph puts it.
MI is hiring an Editorial Assistant on the City Journal team, reporting to the Managing Editor. This is primarily an administrative role, but will have opportunities to collaborate with the team on the substantive work of the publication and the broader work of MI.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
- Vendor and contractor management;
- Accounts payable processing;
- Microsoft Office applications;
- Scheduling;
- Proofreading;
- Print publications;
- Professional writing and communications.
Required qualifications:
- Strong philosophical alignment with MI’s policy priorities, and a keen interest in supporting and extending this work;
- Proven track record in administrative tasks;
- Exceptional attention to detail;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Flexibility and creativity in problem solving.
Preferred qualifications:
- 1-3 years experience in a relevant administrative discipline;
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
We prefer that this role be based in New York City, but we are also considering fully remote candidates. For an NYC-based hire, we anticipate that the role will be hybrid, with at least two or three days every week in our midtown Manhattan office. MI offers a relocation benefit to assist in moving to New York City. For fully remote workers, we expect there will be travel to New York City every 1-2 months, determined in consultation with the Editor of City Journal.
The salary range for this position will be $70,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and geography.
