Mankato Brewery is seeking the right individual to fill the role of Taproom Manager. Candidates should have exceptional organizational, management and people skills along with a drive to grow the taproom. Mankato Brewery is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all people.
As our Taproom Manager, you’ll be responsible for shaping our guests’ experience by maintaining a clean taproom, hiring, and training bar staff, and ultimately focusing on exceptional customer service. Everything you do will help us sustain a friendly and enjoyable work environment.
The Taproom Manager is expected to work between 35-40 hours weekly.
Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of craft beer and/or beer brewing, or an ability to independently learn.
- To provide excellent service to guests and ensure their complete satisfaction. This includes greeting and interacting with guests in a friendly and enthusiastic manner, building trust and delighting guests, anticipating, and meeting guest needs and preferences, remaining calm and professional when dealing with difficult situations, taking ownership of guest issues or problems, and taking action to quickly resolve them, and caring about and valuing guests.
- The ability and willingness to ensure that work activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
- Maintain complete knowledge of all beer selections available.
- Ensure receipt of accurate payments, balance cash drawer during shift, and maintain accuracy.
- Maintain professionalism and a friendly and approachable demeanor throughout shift.
- Adhere to all responsible alcohol serving requirements as dictated by the state of Minnesota and North Mankato.
- Complete opening, daily and closing procedures and ensure the same for bar staff.
- Promote a positive work environment.
- Ensure the taproom is staffed appropriately to meet consumer demands and open hours.
- Ensure the team is aware of upcoming events and their details.
- Contribute to social media content by obtaining photos in the taproom during all times including public events.
- Social Media stories.
- Ensure that all shifts are covered and be prepared to be on call in the event of a call-out.
- Understand and enforce company procedures and safety protocols.
- Bartend 30 hours per week.
- Assist with setting up events in the taproom both during business hours and other special events.
- Clean tap lines and couplers bi-weekly.
- Attend monthly meetings with Management Team.
- Independent work ethic, organizational skills, and people management
- Proficiency with point-of-sale system, including refunds, discounts, adding items, online sales, etc.
- Keep up with taproom marketing (signs, sidewalk sign, etc)
- Understand all promotions (happy hours, events, etc) to share with taproom staff.
- Conflict resolution skills to manage customer and staff concerns.
- Ensure all equipment is clean, working properly, and stocked (dishwasher and spray bottle soap)
- Maintain proper security of cash at all times while following all cash handling procedures.
- Ensure all staff is up to date on health department standards and maintain taproom that is complying.
- Check stock levels of items including but not limited to office and cleaning supplies, food items and merch.
- Ensure merch is always full and presentable.
- Work with merch suppliers on managing what is working and what isn’t working. Plus identifying new merch for gift shop.
- Monthly inventory counting.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be effective in both verbal and written communications.
- Minimum of two years of craft beer industry and/or hospitality experience.
- Minimum of two years of management experience strongly encouraged.
- Previous experience in bartending preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a pleasant personality.
- Willingness to work a varying schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week (mix of bartending and admin)
- Willingness to cover shifts as needed.
- Knowledge of all federal, state, and local sanitary, safety and health standards.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of bar equipment as it relates to the serving of craft beer.
- Proficiency in changing kegs and resetting taps.
- Thorough knowledge of craft beer.
- Overall knowledge of the beer brewing process is a plus but not mandatory. Must possess willingness to learn.
- Highly motivated individual with solid work ethic.
- Possess strong judgment skills and effective listening abilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires regular attendance; requires the ability to stand or walk for hours at a time; frequently required to hear, speak, walk, dance, crawl, climb, stand, reach, bend, balance, kneel, stoop, lift and carry items up to 55 lbs., and move full kegs up to 165lbs.; requires ability to tolerate significant changes in temperature, and frequent immersion of hands in water and cleaning or sanitizing solutions.
Compensation
The compensation for this position will include a hourly component based on experience. Additionally, there will be a tipped portion and a company performance-based bonus structure.
