POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:
This key role is responsible for the materials management function relating to the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products. This involves the responsibility of directing and administering Purchasing, Production Planning, Inventory Control, and Shipping/Receiving and Warehousing. This position is also responsible for the operational and strategic activities of the business. This role directs the overall activity of the business and bears the responsibility for business growth, achievement of the market objectives and profit and loss of the business.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.
- Work in conjunction with the Accounting Department to establish procedures and supervise the annual physical inventory. This includes the taking and valuing of the year-end physical inventory.
- Responsible for the proper model year phase-out programs and initiating and processing the resulting obsolescence and termination claims.
- Oversee and ensures proper production control planning and scheduling programs to meet sales forecasts and to balance the level of manpower and machine requirements. Make certain that deviations to the production schedule are investigated and properly followed up.
- Ensure proper contact with customers relating to releases and deliveries.
- Work in conjunction with Purchasing to oversee the purchasing and/or contracting for materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the operation of the company, in addition to all inventory items. Confers with requesting parties when specific sources are requested. Investigates and solves problems resulting from material shortages, however caused.
- Establish and maintain purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors. Keep informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
- Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery.
- Develop, establish, and provide for the maintenance of reporting systems that relate to the materials function.
- Manage the shipping and receiving functions of the division and oversees the storage of purchased parts and finished goods.
- Ensure shipping cost per E.U. and LOTIF objectives are met.
- Create and implement a strategic plan with the support of leadership for delivering short and long-term goals.
- Create and implement a Sales Strategy with the support of leadership for growing the industrial castings business through existing relationships, and new accounts.
- Establish best practices for regular account meetings and key customer reviews. Seek feedback to ensure expectations of the partnership are met and value-added services are provided to customers.
- Report out monthly to leadership regarding the plans for sales and explanation of variances, warranty, shipping, etc. Also recommend pricing actions as needed.
- Administer and communicate the monthly material surcharge program. Recommend program changes to upper management to recover the monthly fluctuations incurred with raw materials and energy.
REQUIRMENTS AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required in Supply Chain, Operations, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or related field.
- Ten years' experience with proven results in areas related to materials control, production control, inventory control, and shipping/receiving and warehousing in an industrial manufacturing plant environment preferably supporting OEM businesses.
- Working knowledge of metals and metals processing (industrial castings - Gray, Ductile and/or Austempered iron) strongly preferred.
- Excellent procedure development and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to mentor the team in effective problem solving.
- Experience in applying lean manufacturing concepts.
- Proven leadership ability and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of standard quality practices.
- Ability to interpret financial and performance data.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (MS Excel, Word, Outlook) and MRP/ERP. Experience in SAP and WMS software applications preferred.
