Position Description Summary
The Department of Student Success at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for Coordinator of Tutorial Services.
The home campus for this position is Lock Haven with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
About the Department:The Department of Student Success is an integrated department with faculty representing multiple areas that support students including Counseling Services, Learning Centers, TRIO SSS, TRIO Upward Bound Program, Exploratory/Undecided/Undeclared Advising, and First-Year Experience/Seminar. The Department reports through the Division of Student Success and Campus Life.

Duties
Department of Student Success, Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, full-time, temporary, 100% Coordinator of Tutorial Services, home campus Lock Haven.
  • A Master degree is required. Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.
  • Broad understanding of the current research on factors affecting student retention and success, models for student success, how to assess models
  • Knowledge of higher education infrastructure, including academic affairs, enrollment management and student affairs, academic programs, advising, financial aid, bursar, admissions, policies, regulations, and procedures, student information databases
  • Understanding of current research on the roles of community, student satisfaction, and social belonging in student success
  • Experience in teaching, and advising first-year students, students in transition, academically at risk, and diverse identity groups
  • Exceptional written, oral communication, interpersonal, writing, and research skills
  • Excellent leadership skills to advance student success
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with others across academic and administrative units in support of student success
  • Understanding how to manipulate, interpret, and present data
  • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities and multiple priorities concurrently
  • Ability to approach students in a holistic way
  • Expertise in analyzing factors impeding student success, creating and implementing interventions that result in improvements essential to student success
  • Ability to handle conflict and negotiate difficult situations that might be serious in nature and need immediate, calm attention and resources
  • Demonstrated high integrity and the ability to maintain confidential issues and build effective, engaging relationships with students, faculty, and staff

Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate from an accredited university
  • College experience dealing with emerging student success, support, and retention strategies and technology in higher education area (administration, teaching, academic advising, financial aid, bridge programs, special populations programs, etc.)
  • Background in education, success coaching, working with special populations, best practices in student life cycle management
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, leadership, collaboration, and time management skills
  • Familiarity with technology, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn LH administrative databases

Background Clearances
Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
