What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unit Manager position at MAPEI Corporation?
We are looking for a Unit Manager (Manufacturing) to oversee all operations of the local business unit. In this role you will manage people, resources, expenses & processes of the plant, and decide on action to be taken by subordinates in matters pertaining to the proper operation of the respective groups while adhering to all policies, procedures and instructions as defined in our Quality Management System (QMS), Employee Handbook, Environmental, Safety and Health policy and procedures, or any other instruction issued by the company and performing (not limited to) the following:
- Schedule and assign work and planning procedures for the Unit and planning improvements in methods, equipment and procedures to insure the quality and efficiency in entire facility of: Production, Purchasing, Shipping and Receiving, Inventory Control, Maintenance/Engineering, Administrative, Quality Control, Safety, Health and Environment, Regulatory Compliance, Planning, Customer Service, EMS and HSMS.
- Provide direction, development and leadership to production supervisors.
- Direct, through use of subordinate staff, the coordination of their work with other organizational sections of the Company.
- Prepare and submit timely verbal and written reports to Operations management and inform the corporate staff of the overall operation of the Unit.
- Maintain necessary records and reports for the purpose of reviewing the Unit’s activity and performance.
- Initiate Human Resources actions to select, train, discipline, reward, and terminate personnel for subordinate positions.
- Analyze reports directed by corporate headquarters, and initiate action indicated thereby within the Unit Manger’s delegated responsibility and authority.
- Maintain continuous contact with corporate headquarter departments to expedite the solution of problems affecting the unit.
- Direct site activities to prevent injuries, provide occupational health safeguards, control pollution and comply with all applicable regulatory compliance requirements.
- Carry out emergency response activities as required, including utilization of necessary resources. Is authorized to make initial expenditures as predefined by the Director of Operations. Mobilize site Crisis Management Team including continuous incident communication with the Director of Operations and Corporate EHS Manager.
- Request and receive information from all personnel in the Company relative to the Unit.
- Make administrative decisions in accordance with the function outlined above.
- Ensure that all Unit operations conform to applicable QMS standards, procedures, and instructions. Lead the Unit to continuously improve its performance as measured by those standards.
- Develop and control the Unit’s profits, plans, and budget.
- Implement cost effective systems of control over the Unit’s capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
- Manage the Unit’s capital asset maintenance.
- Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives utilizing KPI’s.
- Coordinate plant activities through planning with departmental managers to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards. Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight and repair expenses.
- Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs.
- Incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among personnel.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules and instructions.
- Perform other duties as required.
- BS degree in Engineering, Management, Business Administration or other related field and five years plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of budgets and financials statements.
- Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures required.
- Requires a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Bilingual communication skills in Spanish/English preferred.
- Able to develop strong, trusting business relationships with internal / external customers toward achieving Department / Company goals. Proactively support an atmosphere of teamwork by working collaboratively to meet team goals/objectives while respectfully appreciating other team members’ viewpoints.
- Demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills.
- You must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- The position requires the ability to work with a personal computer in a Windows environment. Use Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as using the Internet.
