INTRODUCTIONThe Marblehead Public School District is actively seeking a dynamic, innovative and visionary educational leader to serve as its next High School Principal at Marblehead High School. The next leader must be able to inspire students and staff to attain their personal and professional best, hold high expectations and lead with empathy and integrity. The successful Principal must demonstrate that he or she is a champion for all students and have a proven track record of creating and maintaining a positive school environment where every student can succeed. The next Principal must be committed to equity and inclusion and be able to share specific examples of his or her work to create safe and inclusive learning environments where all means all.

Marblehead High School is a comprehensive high school that serves grades 9-12. It is an inclusive and welcoming community of learners of approximately 900 students and 140 professional faculty and staff. The new Principal will be supported by an administrative team of two assistant principals, one athletic director and twelve lead teachers (or Department Heads). The High School was built in 2000 and has been meticulously well-maintained.

The Marblehead Public Schools educate students in PreK-12 and are located sixteen miles north of Boston. Serving 2700 students, the district comprises two PreK-3 schools, one 4-6 school, a 7-8 middle school and one high school. JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the High School Principal is responsible for providing instructional leadership to the school community through the development and implementation of strong curricular programs, the supervision and evaluation of staff, the planning and provision of high quality professional development for all staff, and the development and maintenance of a budget that is fiscally responsible and supports the districts core values, mission and Plan for Success. The Principal will use his/her leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student, with the goal of establishing and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment in the school, where every student is challenged in an atmosphere that promotes intellectual development, creativity, and inquiry.RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional Leadership: Promote and maintain high standards for staff, students, and community members in relation to the mission, vision, and core values of the school and district.

Articulate the vision and mission of the school and district.Promote a shared vision that makes powerful teaching and learning the central focus of schooling.Ensure that all teachers design effective and rigorous standards-based units of instruction consisting of well- structured lessons with measurable outcomes.Ensure that instructional practices in all settings reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work, engage all students, and are personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness.Know and encourage appropriate uses of instructional technologies.Involve staff in preparing and implementing professional development plans that are related to high student achievement.Understand the principles of mentoring and peer coaching and can support the model in practice.Implement the school's and district's goals as outlined in the Plan for Success and School Improvement Plan.Foster an environment that encourages staff to be innovative with instructional strategies and collaborative with other staff for the purpose of meeting the needs of every student.Ensure that all teachers use a variety of formal and informal methods and assessments to measure student learning, growth, and understanding and make necessary adjustments to their practice when students are not learning to ensure improved outcomes for all students.Provide effective and timely supervision and evaluation in alignment with state regulations and contract provisions.Participate in system-wide curriculum development and work with faculty to improve and revise curricula on a continuing basis.Maintain a professional understanding of the current research related to the improvement of teaching and learning.Management and Operations: Ensure a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment, using resources to implement appropriate curriculum, staffing, and scheduling.Implement a cohesive approach to recruitment, hiring, induction, development, and career growth that promotes high-quality and effective practice.Assume responsibility for the day to day operation of the school building and grounds and for the development and maintenance of comprehensive school emergency plans.Leverage schedules, calendars, and use of space to enable student-centered learning.Use systems to ensure optimal use of time for teaching, learning, and collaboration.Build a master schedule that capitalizes on learning time to support core instruction, intervention, and enrichment.Oversee the implementation of state assessments within the school as appropriate (MCAS,WIDA).Attend School Committee meetings and other district events as directed by the Superintendent.Understand and comply with state and federal laws and mandates, school committee policies, collective bargaining agreements, and ethical guidelines.Develop a budget that supports the districts vision, mission, and Plan for Success.Allocate and manage expenditures consistent with district Plan for Success, school-level improvement plans and available resources.Family and Community Engagement: Promote effective partnerships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders that support the mission of the school and district.Collaborate with families to support student learning and development both at home and at school.Engage in regular, two-way, culturally proficient communication with families about student learning and performance.Address family concerns in an equitable, effective, and efficient manner.Communicate consistently and regularly with the wider school community regarding school activities and initiatives.Involve families and other community members in developing the vision, goals, School Improvement Plans, and programs for the school/district.Promotepartnershipsamongstaff,families,thebusinesscommunity,andother community groups and uses community resources to enhance instruction.Professional Culture: Provide procedures and protocols that foster a culture of respect and collaboration.Understand organizational change, school-based management, and school restructuring.Understand federal, state, and local laws and regulations including laws on disability, civil rights and responsibilities, issues of liabilities, and requirements of due process.Nurtures and sustains a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning for staff.Work collaboratively with other building and district administrators to promote equity and consistency across the district.Assist with the curricular review process and actively participate in district teams and committees.Cultivate teacher leadership opportunities that enable educator voice and meaningful contributions to the work of the school.Effectively plans and facilitates regular meetings to support professional learning, maintain a healthy culture and foster consistency among all staff members.Routinely delivers actionable feedback about instruction and other professional practices through written observations and ongoing feedback and the evaluation process.
