JOB TITLE: Safety Specialist
FULL-TIME (Onsite)

POSITION SUMMARY: This safety position will be responsible for managing and coordinating Environmental Compliance, Workers Compensation claims, and safety Briefings for MarBorg Industries. Create, and implement, a safety training program for employees. Lead accident/incident investigations, process all accident/incident paperwork, and ensure all information is sent to the appropriate personnel as well as follow up.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Initiates new workers' compensation claims and manages through the life of the claim.
- Set up notifications and correspondence for identifying incoming work comp claims.
- Provide guidance and act as a resource to injured employees' managers and supervisors when work-related injuries occur.
- Investigates claim to determine root cause, develops, and executes strategy to mitigate future risk.
- Reply to all employee questions and inquiries regarding their claims. Provide frequent updates to employees and management.
- Manage communications with work comp carrier.
- Regularly evaluates the company procedures, facilities, and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions.
- Manage a database of the common injuries that employees experience in the workplace. Plays an important role as an advocate to injured employees and help to provide clarity and support through the workers comp claim process.
- Coordinates with HR to record information for updates on disability status post-appointment.
- Assists with scheduling the medical evaluation and sends out reminders on appts.
- Coordinates service of required documentation to appropriate parties on litigated claims.
- Updating notes timely and concisely upon completion of tasks within the MyOSH records management system.
- Coordinate with HR and department managers to identify possible work accommodations for employees released to work with physical restrictions.
- Partners with the HR Department to appropriately update the status of employees on leave due to work-related injuries.
- Provides input on disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.
- Creates presentations and conducts training for employees in safety-sensitive jobs. Perform initial and subsequent confined-space training, forklift training, bloodborne pathogens training, heat stress training, and other training programs directed toward Cal/OSHA compliance.
- Designs testing and evaluation processes for employees; conducts testing and evaluation to ensure compliance.
- Maintains a calendar of recurring training requirements and schedules monthly safety meeting topics accordingly. Coordinate with managers and supervisors on education and training relative to safety trends and indicators.
- Recommends annual training goals and conducts training assessments. Designs and conducts safety and health bulletins and awareness.
- Continuously reviews safety policies, writes procedures, and disseminates information to ensure regulatory compliance. Makes recommendations to management on a variety of difficult safety or health issues, programs, topics, or enforcement concerns, including current or proposed regulation and their potential impact upon operation.
- Works closely with TPA adjusters to support efficiencies in claim adjusting and timely claim closure.
- Works closely with HR to coordinate training and development programs for continuous improvement.
- Work closely with HR to establish a Return-to-work (Light/Modified Duty) Program.
- Partners with managers and HR if disciplinary action is applicable for repeat incidents.
- Informs managers, payroll, and HR if and when the employee has returned to work.
- Provides information to HR to send out ADA letters to injured employees and filing of SDI.
- The candidate may be part of the safety committee.
- Must be able to locate safety data sheets.
- May coordinate safety and interactive meetings.

- Organize and file all necessary Environmental reports associated with MarBorg Industries.
- Manage all Environmental compliance requirements including but not limited to stormwater, air quality, hazardous substances, and tire disposal.
- Manage all DMV driver’s license requirements including PULL notices, Clearinghouse, random drug testing, and driver physicals.
- Assist in community events such as beach and creek cleanup projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bi-lingual in English / Spanish is highly desired.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
- Experience specifically with Worker's Comp claims.
- Experience with reading and interpreting documents such as medical reports, legal documentation (settlement documentation)
- Approaches tasks with a sense of urgency while appropriately prioritizing them and completing them based on established deadlines
- 5 experience with Workers' Compensation claims or safety incidents in a corporate, carrier, or TPA setting is desired.
- Ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment.

We are a drug-free & alcohol-free work environment. Some travel to other MarBorg remote yards and locations.
