Job Summary
THIS POSITION BEGINS AUGUST 9, 2024.
Glendale Community College serves a highly diverse student population where the hired applicant will teach the range of Computer Science courses including introductory programming, Data Structures, programming languages, and Assembly Language. The instructor will be expected to use innovative teaching methods and incorporate the appropriate technology in the instruction of Computer Science. Participation in departmental, college, and district committees & activities and regular pursuit of professional growth opportunities are expected of the hired applicant.
Essential Functions
50% - Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or lab setting using appropriate, innovative, and technology-based delivery systems. Other modalities may include online, live online, HyFlex, hybrid, accelerated, and/or other alternative schedules and formats; uses learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and success; incorporates effective instructional technologies. Evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records. Prepares and grades individual and/or departmental examinations
20% - Develops instructional materials and curriculum; develops written syllabi/course outlines, assignments, exams, and other course materials; Develops programs and course competencies, assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning
10% - Maintains daily office hours to assist, tutor, and advise students outside of the classroom to promote learning, citizenship, and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects; provides leadership for STEM programs, activities and clubs; develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students; cultivates relationships with business and industry to identify new programs and work skills and develops internship and co-op opportunities
10% - participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students
10% - Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and skills necessary to remain current with the latest developments in computer science and information technology through conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, projects and appropriate readings
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree or higher in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Cyber Security, Computer Engineering, Computer Systems Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, The preceding list of sub disciplines within the field of Computer Science is intended as representative and does not limit acceptance of similar titles by the Computer Science Instructional Council.
OR a Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes/subjects: CS, CSC, CSE, CAE, SER. The preceding list of possible course titles are intended as being representative of most Computer Science Disciplines, but other titles within Computer Science exists. If a 400-level Computer Science Course is cross-listed as a 500 level course it may also be counted toward the required minimum of 18 graduate hours in the computer science discipline. Course descriptions or syllabi may be needed to determine the content and level of the course.
OR a Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords: Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Electrical Engineering, Systems Architect, AI Engineer, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Expert Systems, Computer Hardware Engineer, Information Analyst, Theory of Computation, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Architecture and Organization, Computer Networks, Computer Security and Cryptography, Databases and Data Mining. The preceding list of possible course titles are intended as being representative of most Computer Science Disciplines, but other titles within Computer Science exist. Course descriptions or syllabi may be needed to determine the content and level of the course.
Desired Qualifications
Evidence of the knowledge and demonstrated expertise in various Computer Science areas such as both higher and lower level computer programming languages, emphasis on Java, Python Applications, C , C, Computer Organization, Assembly Language, Data Structures, Operating System, Cybersecurity, Functional Programming, etc. (See How to Apply section)
Evidence of teaching experience sufficient to teach the full range of undergraduate Computer Science courses offered at GCC.
Evidence of using a variety of teaching methods, including technology and its uses in the teaching of Computer Science
Evidence of significant professional growth in Computer Science
Evidence of a solid background in mathematics needed for teaching Computer Science
Special Working Conditions
Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
May require numerous evenings or weekends
May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
