Job Title: Director of Finance
Program/Department: Administration
Reports To: Head of School
FLSA Status: Exempt, 25-30 hours per week
Position Overview:
With the central water-front campus in Corte Madera and a satellite Junior High campus in nearby San Rafael, Marin Montessori School seeks a Director of Finance. The focus of this position is to ensure financial stability, legal compliance, and risk minimization for the school. The Director of Finance oversees all aspects of MMS finance and accounting.
Preferred Experience, Qualifications, and Attributes:
The successful candidate will be a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with strong financial management and accounting understanding, experience, and skills. They will enjoy working amongst a vibrant school community. The Director of Finance will work closely with the Head of School and the Board's Finance Committee in ensuring current and long-term health and sustainability. The Director of Finance will supervise an accounting manager. Preferably the Director of Finance will have non-profit and independent school experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage, prepare and update budgets
- Prepare reports for Finance Committee
- Covenant Reporting
- Review and approve reimbursement requests and credit card statements
- Manage Tuition Assistance budgeting
- Manage school insurance needs and renewal processes
- Manage annual audit and tax reporting
- Ensure retirement plan compliance
- Supervise accounts manager

- Good interpersonal skills: the ability to listen well, understand, support, and connect with colleagues
- Aptitude with technology
Other Requirements:
- Must pass the LiveScan fingerprint testing through the Department of Justice
- Must have a minimum of 3 years direct experience
Salary: This is an exempt administrative position. The salary and benefits package is very competitive, matching or exceeding Bay Area independent school norms.
